305 tbi to 350 tpi Help!

i know there is probably a million threads like this one... but the search button really didn't help me. me and my buddy are gonna do his 92 RS camaro (305 tbi) and put a 89 350 tpi motor (from a GTA) in it. The tpi is 3k miles old and is just freshly rebuilt with mild headwork and a mild cam. I know the owner of the motor and he is a great friend of mine. He is letting it go for 1700 with everything with it. Including harness and computer of course. This will be my first swap along with my buddies and we just want a lil input on the swap. We have the garage and the tools and the lift and everything else u could ever need (my dad owns a shop and is a mechanic).

What i want to know is this: Is there a website out there that goes step by step on this swap or gives helpful hints and tips? Do any of u have any of yourselves. About how long should this swap take for 2 people to swap the motor. I myself know quite a bit about cars but like i said, i have never done one.

Thanks!

Go to www.thirdgen.org and look in the tech article section. There is a simple article there on converting your TBI to TPI. It's not the greatest but it will help you out.

I wouldnt use the 89 GTA wire harness. Its for a Pontiac so some things are different, like the battery on the driver's side. You can repin your TBI harness to work with the TPI computer like my dad did with his 92 RS.

rerouting a battery cable is hardly a problem. That is petty compared to the swap itself. did u find the swap direct? any tips?

EDIT: i went to the site and only found tpi to carb... that doesn't help. we are swapping a whole motor. come on guys, tell me about ur experiences.

omg i sorry. thanks u. Anyone else have more info? surely we are not the only morons to do this! I do have a question though... why do we need to replace the fuel lines? what is wrong with the TBI fuel lines.

there is nothing wrong with the TBI fuel lines if they are in good shape, they are the same hard lines, the rubber line at the engine will need to be changed however, the TPI ones are longer, you will need a fuel pump for the TPI as well, if the lines are still the the factory configuration from the tank to the engine, then all you need to do is get the higher pressure pump and the right lines at the engine

If you work at a decent pace, you can do the swap in two days.
I'd pull the motor and tranny, put the tranny on the 350 and put that into the car and then start the wiring.
