305 heads on 350 block

I posted this in the advanced tech section, but thought I'd put it on here also to see if I can get any extra advice.

I am most likely going to buy a 82 Camaro this weekend, and I plan to put a 350 in it. I was told to take the 305 heads and put them on the 350 block for higher compression. I don't really know much about this and was wondering the ups and downs about doing this. I know it will give more bottom end power and possibly less top end. Any inputs on this? Would it give more possibilities on blowing my engine? I want to give it the most horsepower for my budget, and also still be reliable.

don't waste your time putting smog 305 heads on your 350... they will not flow enough and the added compression wont help ... your best bet for a cheap head upgrade would be vortec heads...

My friend ran 305 heads on his 350 bracket/street car. Ran low 12's at 108ish in a 3350pd car. A4 and 4.10's, shorty headers, hooker cat back with A/C.

Would have been quicker if he had put descent heads on it!

like has been said don't bother putting 305 heads on this motor what you gain in compression will have less affect than actually bolting a head on that flows better.

I would check into getting vortec heads because they flow worlds better and if you have anything close to a flat top piston in your original motor you'll have a little over 9:1 compression which is 87 octane friendly and make a ton more power.
