305 to a 350 swap
305 to a 350 swap
The 305 in my 87 GTA gave up the ghost and I'm having a 350 built for it. Question... Will the TPI set up from the original 305 be a direct bolt in with the original injectors for the new 350.
Also is the ECM the same for both GTA engines?
Any comments are welcome.
Thanks Jim

To use the TPI you have to use the heads/intake as well as the TPI because of the angled heads, or you have to go out and get heads that will fit the intake.
You'll probably want to get bigger injectors.
I have no idea about the ECM.

As long as you have late-model heads (centerbolt valve covers) the TPI will bolt right on. You need to get 350 injectors (22pph instead of the 19 that the 305 had.) Also get a 350 knock sensor.....if you don't the 305 sensor will pick up false knock due to the different harmonics of the 350 and the computer will retard the hell out of your timing.
hey,im brand new here and ive done that swap. the ECM that u used w/ the 305 will work fine...i have it right now and i still have #19 injectors also and it runs fine but prob. lean. ill fix that prob. hopefully soon. hope that helps
Every thing bolts up the same. Depending on the HP of the new engine will make the difference in the injectors. I run 24lb SVO injectors on my engine. It makes 304RWHP. The ECM works but again depending on the HP you may need a new chip burned. On a stock 350 it will work fine. You should pick up a 255 fuel pump to make sure the engine doesn't run lean on top end and set the fuel pressure reg to 48psi. Hope this helps.
Thanks for all the replies. and the suggestions on the fuel pump and such.
Because of the money situation I'll have to wait on the larger injectors unless they are not a huge expense. I know it would be easier to change injectors when the engine is apart.
The 350 is being built stock with the exception of a mild cam. I'm still talking to the engine builder about my choices on that.
