3.08's too low for 6-speed?

IF DAN666MAN ever gets me my 6-speed, will the 3.08's I have now just be too low for the mad overdrive of a T56? If I got 3.73's, would that decrease my gas mileage any compared to my 3.08's/5-speed? Thanks

Yes, its too low, the car will be a bigger dog then now. The T56 is 2x the weight of the T5, the first gear is a 2.66 vs. a 2.95 on the T5, so basically, in first, it'll be like 2.73s or so with a T5. I know the feeling though, I am going to swap a T56 into my '88 soon, and for now, it has 3.27s and that is all I can afford. Even 3.42s with a T56 is tall, 4.10s worked great for me with a T56. Gas milage will probably improve with 3.73s and T56 vs. now.

Yeah way too low. I had 3.23s at first and it was okay no problems, but 6th gear was useless. I had no problem though spinning the tires in 1st though.

Now I have 3.42s and 6th gear is able to be used at like 80+ and everything else is basically the same. I have a Street Twin so it helped to have more mechanical advantage with the 3.42s but it's still not enough.

yes, it is too low. 3.73's work great, u can actually use your 6th gear at normal speeds. but 4.10's are the PERFECT gear for M6's

10000% AGREED!!!! My 4.10s gave the best acceleration, the niceest "feel" when you drive it, gear spacing is perfect, gas milage stays good, etc. Can't loose with 4.10s in my oppinion!

Anyone know what kind of rpm I'd be turning at around 70 mph with 4.10's?

If I remember right, just under 2000.

If you already have the gears and are looking for the tranny another option is the Richmond 6 speed. They're geared low for a highway gear. 6th is a .76 OD. Not sure which would be the least expensive course. Don't think you have to run the slave cylinder w/the Richmond either.

If you already have the T56 then yes, I'd say 3.08 is low, unless you're building up for the salt flats.
