Question 2nd gear's crunchy

Has anyone gone through this? What did you do to rectify it? Was it expensive?

Sounds like the 2nd gear synchronizer is bad. I'm guessing that you probably power shift the car and that is hard on the sychro's. I've actually had one break in half. It's considered normal wear for a car that is drag raced. Replace it or have it replaced. Might as well replace the ones in 3rd and 4th while your in there. The synchro's themselves aren't that expensive. Don't worry about 1st or 5th. 1st gear is never shifted into at speed and 5th is usually not used in a race, so they don't get that much abuse.

Cool

Thanks to you both for replying and confirming my suspicions. I have learned most of what I know from reading about cars, working with cars, and having worked (and raced)at Grand Bend Motorplex, but it's always reassuring to hear from people who are better-versed in this than I am. I'll have it checked out. Take care!
