The thing about the 93 t56 had something to do with the throttle body cable I believe. There were two T56s in 1993, one was for the 2.73 cars and the other was for the 3.23 cars. In 94 all 6spds got 3.42 gears. But they all bolt up the same.

this isnt necessarily true, although yes they rated the 1993 years at less hp and tq rating this was because it has a 3.36 1st gear ratio to make up for the rear end gear gm used, since the gear was so tall and thin they decided to cover their a$$es, if you will, and rate them lower due to the possibility of them breaking. this box was known as the m28. now in early early 1994 they used a slightly improved box called the m29 which is rated just over 400 hp and tq due to its 2.97 1st gear. then from late 94 and up they used the t56 box with the 2.66 1st gear ratio rated at 450 hp and tq (forget the name of that box).

some people say the ratings are full of shavings and are running the stock m28 box behind 600 hp stroker motors, and you'll always have a few guys who haven't had luck with them like some.

now as for cost, im doing a swap into my 87 trans am right now, after just being patient and keeping an eye out i found a tranny for 480 on craigslist with just the box no bell housing or clutch. then on ebay a bellhousing with slave spacer for 75 shipped, also pedals for 80 shipped and the hydraulics for just about 90 shipped. so besides a flywheel and clutch assembly i have less than 800 into the swap. im putting mine behind a 454 so i needed a custom flywheel anyways so all in a with a cheap clutch for now i might have just over 1000 into all of it. if you have any questions just pm me
