1990 Gta

I`m buying a 1990 GTA, just wondering what you guys think of it

It`s Black with black leather interior and it`s a hard top car, paint is in good condion it`s got a couple of little scratches no rust car is solid, new good year eagles and new brakes all the way around,

350 TPI 4spd auto, duel cats, 4 wheel disc brakes, is this a 3.27 9 bolt or a 3.42 10 bolt rear end car???, or could it be either one?

The car isn`t mint but is in really good shape with 183 000 km, just needs cats and windshield, car is almost all original with the only mods being a shift kit and a K&N filter

I`m buying it next week for $2500 I CAN`T WAIT, my 85 Z28 will have a friend now lol, 1 prob, which one gets the garage???

Sounds very similar to what I have. Your car will be 3.27 9 bolt. The 3.42's only came with the 5 speed option.

AFAIK, only the 2.73/2.77 axles came with the 2 series. Yes it's posi.

All 1990 350 TPI Autos had 10-Bolt 3:23 with a limited Slip. The limited Slip & Rear Discs were required options.
Last year for the 9-bolt was 1989.

I stand corrected. The 9 bolts were super strong. But try and find aftermarket gears for them. The limited choices (compared to the 10 bolt) are typically twice the price.

Damn , I was hoping it was a 9bolt ,Oh well, I don`t plan on modding this car at all, so the 10 bolt should be fine

Re: 1990 Gta

I was wondering what kind of fuel mileage this GTA will get? , my Z28 is horrible so I`m hoping the GTA will be a touch better

Rated for 17/25....I get 15/23 but I have the 160 stat in there (lowers fuel economy). I'm going 180 this summer and have seen other people who've gone 160->180 and gotten about 1.5 mpg better.

Yep, I have not seen a 1990 with a nine bolt. Maybe one bought in September could posibly have one left over from the 1989 run. I have seen cars in 1991 with drum rear brakes.

90/91 model run GM had a parts shortage of rear disc parts and some cars were built with rear drums. So it not unusual, the buyer were given a credit by GM. WOW

mine has drums.

The 10 bolt rears are not bad.

I am doing the 1/4 at about 13.5 with 1.9 60ft's with no problem....yet........

Re: 1990 Gta

Sounds like a good deal! Hope it doesn't have too many gremlins (but they all do at that age). I did almost the same (bought an 89 GTA, already had an 86 Z28). The Z never moves anymore, but it's not worth any money, so can't sell it, and can't throw it away due to sentimental value. Sooo, it's just a liability.
Some would consider 90 to be the best year (arguable), or at least one of the better years. Has speed density (MAP not $MAF$). A few extra ponies from lighter pistons I believe (or was that 91-92?). 10 bolt parts availability. Dual cats standard on L98 (my 89 is single). Didn't have the 91-92 Banshee styling with ground effects (I love the look of a 91-92 formula though).
Just make sure it shifts well. Make sure the check engine light functions, and that it's not on while driving. Check for bodywork and rust. If all is well, you'll be lovin it soon.
Enjoy!

Re: 1990 Gta

Well, the GTA is a fill in car for now, I want to put the Zed away and build it over 2-3 years and then sell the GTA, but I`ll probly keep the GTA I don`t know, I like Camaro`s way more then then Firebirds but I do love the GTA`s and I`ve been wanting to buy this GTA for 5-6 years now, but my 85 Z28 is my BABY, and even with the GTA I know I`ll miss my Zed, the Zed has 2 things I LOVE, a T-5 and T-tops that the GTA dosen`t have, Don`t get me wrong the GTA will be my baby too but my 2nd baby lol, I can`t wait till monday .

Oh and I checked the body, the only rust is where the pipe goes by the rocker under the car, but all 3rd gens rott there because of the heat a simple patch will fix it, and the 350TPI purrs I havn`t drove the car but my boss is the guys step dad and my boss said if he said the car runs and drives fine I can trust him, but I`m still driving the car b4 I buy it. I CAN`T WAIT

Re: 1990 Gta

When are you buying the car? You're going to love it. They're real eye turners. Just that much more deluxe from the traditional 3rd gen F-body.

This can be you in the summertime.
