1990 Camaro Air Filters/ Intake question

Hi,
I have a 1990 camaro tpi, it has the stock ram air style twin airfilter set up. If I take out the airfilters there is a plastic plate underneath the filters that block the passage off to the ram air holes on the outside of the front of the car. Can I take them out for added horsepower? and will it hurt the car?
thanks for the help!!

i remember seeing this on thirdgen.org just a little bit ago, maybe it was in there in the tech database somewhere
but i think that yes, you would cut it out, and it would help
however, i've heard if you cut the lip or soemthing or other that holds the filters, then your screwed
check thirdgen.org

i thought about installing somthing like that, i actually made one by cutting the front off the bottoms of those filter boxes, but i looked at the oem air filters in my car when i looked, and the metal screen was rusted from water. so i didnt install the modified one. i dont drive in the rain often but i dont want to have my engine sucking in water if it does

the part you are speaking of can be unbolted and removed. What the rest of these guys are talking about is actually cutting the whole bottom off the air box which you can also do

yes cut the bottoms off this will be fine. the k and n filters actually disperese water so you should be alright. go onto ebay motors and search ram air boxes theres a guy on there who sells a perfect fit set out of sheet metal that mount behind the fog lights they dynoed at 12 hp and thats just with a fan in front of it i hear the cars pull super hard at highway speeds i cant wait to get mine ive been waiting for them to arrive for 2 weeks damn ground mail but for 50 bucks its def worth it.
