Dude! I forget the exact number, but it is LOW. Double check the codes at www.thirdgen.org

Of course I'd still race it even if it was a rare car.

Hey I'm lookin through thirdgen.org's technical database. Looks like they started being produced in 1988. Maybe you have one of the 4 that were made in 88......

1LE's weren't sold for the '87 model year, nor do they come with a/c or cruise. Look near the bottom of your listing, you have a 1SC option level 03, not a 1LE option level 00. Once you specified option level 00, the factory automatically deleted a/c and cruise.

A/C and cruise could then be reordered on the car, but that was rare

I think you get the radio and A/C back in the B4C option (cop cars), but no p/w,p/l or cruize control. And they come with RS decals.

1LE cars also had 12" dual piston brakes and 36mm/24mm sway bars.

I drive a 91 Z28 1LE 350CID automatic. I have a radio, P/W, P/B, P/M, P/S, P/seat, P/hatch, cruise etc. My buddy has exactly the same but a 92 with gray leather.
As for easy things to look for..... PBR aluminum brake calipers, 4 wheel disc, aluminum driveshaft, larger sway bars etc. are the most noticable but arent always guaranteed since people do 1LE upgrades.
Im probably wrong but I could swear that they did make like 2 1LEs in 87. The option code for a 1LE car prior to 89 was "A4U".

Dave,

Not to get into a shouting contest, but here is my understanding of how a 1LE was ordered in the early years:

- The customer ordered an IROC (not an RS) via RPO B4Z, IROC package
- specified RPO G92, performance axle ratio
- RPO G92 invoked RPO J65, rear disks; RPO G80, limited slip diff; and RPO KC4, engine oil cooler
- the customer then specified either RPO LB9, 5.0 TPI or RPO B2L, 5.7 TPI
- all IROC's automatically were assigned RPO 1SC - option level 03
- if the customer specified RPO 1SC - option level 00, there was no place on the order form to do this, the dealership had to contact the Central Order Processing Office to get approval
- if approval was granted, the car was assigned RPO 1LE
- RPO 1LE deleted the a/c, cruise, and probably power accessories(not sure though)
- RPO 1LE added, Corvette rotors and calipers on the front, an 18 gallon baffled fuel tank and a unique PROM in the ecm

RPO 1LE was meant to be limited to Showroom Stock racers with competition licenses. It was not meant for general release (Chevy learnt their lesson from the original RPO Z28) and the obtuseness of the ordering process reflected that.

The B4C cars (cop cars) were 1LE cars with AC. But, for the first few model years, you could not get AC on a 1LE (it was built as a race car for competition use). Also, one of your RPO codes you listed would be "1LE" if it were optioned that way.

As memory serves me, there were 4 1LE optioned cars built in 1988 which was considered to be the first year of production.

This article seems to have some interesting info.
