$1095.34

My new toy is quite expensive.

From the $745 estimate i was given when i first took my car to that garage, a guy who rarely is there except a week out of the year calls me and tells me the estimated costs are now $1,275.00+. So i go there after work and he said the numbers changed a little its now $1095.34 to get the following put back into my car:

EGR Valve
Air Pump
Air Pump Pulley
Divertor Valve
All Vac. Hoses
Belt ( Whats wrong with the one i have on there? )
Evaporater Canister

AND i may or may not need a Caty Convertor depending on when they get further in there and see if mine is even working or even there.

So i only have to pay $495.00 of that. The state pays the other $600 but damn... what the hell? When did the price almost double? I paid $1,000 out for my 89 Firebird and now ive just about that same amount into it just to put an emissions system into it!

Im going to be extremley pissed if when ive put all this money into it, and it doesnt even pass emissions this time.

Damnit.

Nothing is cheap on these cars, especially an entire emissions system from ground up. Hopefully everything works out.

You know I have never heard so much crap in my life.
This Jerk is trying to rip you off plane and simple.
If he quoted you a price and you have it on paper then they have to honor it.
I have worked it tire stores and If I miss quoted a price I had to honer it even if I made nothing on it.
I guess if I lost money then I would lose my job.
But this it crap.
And this happens after you file the paper work sound F***** up to me.
You need to take it to other places and get some more prices.
Or bring it down to me in Florida and I will fix the car.
But it would probably cost you the same amount with the way these dam gas CO. like to take advantage of us all.
EDIT
I just remberd there is a camaro in a slavage yard down the road from me and it has everything you need.
I could see how much it would cost for all the stuff you need if you want?

Re: $1095.34

to put this stuff on itsn't that hard...but is that with all new products from GM or what? find somebody on TGO that is willing to sell the whole Emissions system...you could probably pick everything up for like a 100 bucks used...i ripped my entire system off and sold it, I had it all out in like a half hour...

Re: $1095.34

That's the way it goes sometimes when you go to a shop. If the state is kicking in the $600 for these parts, that's not too bad for you. If the state kicks in for used parts, see what you can do. At least with new parts, you're pretty assured you'll be passing emissions for awhile to come

Thank the previous owner of the car for taking your entire emissions system out of it For the 5-10hp he probably gained, it was really worth it...

Re: $1095.34

If they found more stuff wrong than what was on the quote, than you have to pay for it. If they encountered troubles lik broken off bolts etc, then you have to pay for it. If you take something to a shop to be repaired, that is what happens.

Re: $1095.34

I am in Ft. Worth also, you can use my 88 350 as a template to do the connections and sort out vacuum lines. Only bump is next weekend I start working nights for a month and will not have a day off until early November. Work is not hard just takes time. What year is your car? I also hit most of the salvage yards in Kennadale yesterday and there is not much on the lot for GM Heaven and Aztec...may check with AB. Good luck....07 an 82 gets no sniff test....so I been looking around (don't mention that part to me wife)
