Spare tire and wheel for 1SS Models

Anyone here purchased a wheel and tire to have as a spare for their 1SS with 20'' wheels? If so what wheel did you buy? Also are there smaller wheels that will fit over the brakes such as an 18'' wheel?

One of my concerns before I buy mine is to have a spare tire and wheel to put in the trunk. Since the SS models do not come with a spare I figured I would buy my own and put it in the trunk. Call me old fashioned that way I guess.

I've been on the side of the road a few times over the years with a flat. I was always able to get back on the road because I had a spare to swap in until I got the tire repaired.

I'm not really looking for anything fancy, just something simple that will work.

Hopefully in another 4 months I'll be going to the dealer to make that new car order.

I am SO glad you posted this...I was thinking the same thing.

There has to be something out there that will fit. Hope so anyway.

Anyone know?

I found some hope but it quickly evaporated:

Looks like a decent kit. What evaporated your hope? The price?

No, I couldn't find it anywhere online.

However after doing a lot more digging I found the guy's ebay id and voila!! I found the kit.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Spare...item35b23e7cd1

I found it after find a thread deep on another car board. Other guys on a couple of other Camaro boards have also made their own with different GM part numbers and having a custom spacer machined.

Not sure I'm willing to spend that much, I might see if I can put one together myself.

I dunno...I am sure it can be done, but unless you have some decent connections, it may end up costing more in the end. The running around collecting parts and doing trial and error research would be a pain as it is.

I'd like to get my hands on one and check it out. It looks like it was well thought through.

I arranged a group buy with my club with Joe (dumars14892) from Ebay. He has great quality stuff and was a pleasure to deal with. I don't think you'll find the stuff cheaper and it all fits perfectly in the car.

I just grabbed a full size SS rim they are easy to find and you can find a rim and a tire for around 200$ and a electronic scissor jack $65 would work good as well, its a less expensive option but Kendells kit looks stock and takes up less room. I wanted a full size so I can keep a decent speed especially for our canada trip , we ended up using the spare and cruised home at 80

Okay, I am thinking of getting one of the spare tire kits and reviewing it here for everyone. With my car very low, I want to see how well it works out.

Mucker15: I like the idea of a full-size spare. You said Kendell's kit takes up less room. What did you mean by that?

Here's some pics of the kit, it does fit right above the battery on the SS model just like the LT (V6's)
