Wink Possible tranny for the new Camaro?

Hello everyone,

Being new here, this question may have already been asked & answered, however:

Does anyone have a idea or has anyone heard from the GM, which transmission will be used in the LS2 or LS3 Camaro? My guess is that it may be the Tremec T56 or possibly the TR6060, which runs in the C6-Corvette.

Search the threads for it

I'm sure it's come up a few times by now.
Several people should jump in as well.

Try a search first.

The LS2 is no longer in production. It will not be used in the Camaro.

According to current intelligence, the Camaro SS will be getting the 6.2L LS3. The Z/28 will be getting the supercharged 6.2L LS8.

There has been no word on the specific transmissions in the Camaro. GM has only said that manual and automatic transmissions will be offered. I would think that the TR6060 will find its way into the Camaro, as that is the manual transmission being used in the G8.

Wow!! This was The quickest thread-jack I've ever seen!

I think it would make sense to assume the TR-6060, because it's the T-56s replacement per-say. Also, we're more than likely to be offered the 6L80 Auto tranny. With paddle-shifters and the whole shebang.

I hate to say it or think it, but would a cvt be a possibility? It seems that a lot of the manufacturers are turning to the cvts for economy reasons (I wouldn't get a cvt, but i wouldn't be surprised to see on on the 6/4 versions)

CVT technology has improved quite a bit in the last few years, but I don't think any CVT would be able to reliably handle 400HP+. The Nissan Maxima puts 270ish through a CVT but unless I'm mistaken, I don't think there's anything else with more power and a CVT right now. You probably won't see it on the V8.

The 6 and 4...maybe someday. But it will also make the car more expensive.

i think once they make them strong enough (and efficient) they will possibly be one of if not THE best mods/upgrades.

Just sat in a meeting with the guys from Tremec.

The new 6 speed manuel Tranny for the 2010 Camaro is a TR-66. They said it is a T-56 only better and stronger.

It also will be offered in the Challanger [hence the 09 delay?] and Mustang. They also said a aftermarket version will be readied to sell for retro fits.

So. Assuming the V6 is getting a 6speed going by the rumors, will it also be getting the TR66?

With the power being in the 300 pluse range I would expect the TR 66 would be used in both cars. Strength and the extra gerar would work well with the 3.6 DI. It would add to performance and mileage with little penalty of weight and cost.

Tremec did say it was going in the Camaro but did not disclose the models.
