The PDF has four cam types listed. I wish they had more info, like typical dyno curves for each cam. I've actually had a very hard time finding a lot of info on L99 cam applications. Other than this post and an article on a Mast performace build there is nothing.

I would give Comp a call and see what they can do for you. Let us know what they say!

It's my understanding that the more mild camshaft is the 26hp power difference in the L99.

If that's the case then any LS3 numbers you find could be yours with the same cam, (other modifications), and the phaser.

Nope, LS3 cams don't work in the L99 unless you want to give up AFM and VVT, and disabling all of that stuff (which essentially gives you an LS3) involves replacing a LOT of parts at a fairly high cost.

You need an L99-specific cam.

Thanks for mentioning, Jake.

We'll see about the cost. Everyone keep an eye on my Camaro project site, especially this spring.

I thought if it was cut from an L99 core then (via the phaser) you could run whatever lobes you want in an L99?

Example.. guy has an LS3 making good power with 234-238 duration, 565/580 lift w/ 114 LSA. So you get those lobes from the Comp book and have an L99 core ground with those lobes at that separation angle.

Also.. what are the limits of the lifters in an L99?

I have a LY6 in my 1994 Firebird Formula (the LY6 is the "baby" 6.0L iron block version of the L99 with lower compression). The VVT cam options from Comp or Mast should work just fine with the L99 as it is, from what I can tell, nearly identical to the L92 and LY6 in terms of VVT capability. On its own, a L99 or LS3 should be dyno'ing 400-430rwhp with bolt-ons.

hope this helps.

LS3 conversion in your future?

I say don't do it. You need to pave the trail for high-performance VVT LS engines, or nobody's going to.

VVT has been around for a good while... there's nothing new about it (only the fact that it's being used in pushrod motors). The technology has been well developed. I believe the GM system is very similar to the Toyota vvt-i system.

VVT is an incredible thing to have... getting rid of it would be hurting your car's overall performance. IMO, the L92/99 > LS3... Probably a good part of the reason why the L99 Camaro is faster than the LS3 Camaro.

I've been a bit out of the loop lately, but I was under the impression that the LS3 cars are posting quicker ETs and faster trap speeds than the L99 cars.
