Clearing Check Engine Light?

I broke the evap solenoid on the passenger side cylinder head a couple of weeks ago which prompted the "Tighten Gas Cap" message to appear on the DIC.

Now, I have the Check Engine light lit up, even though I replaced the broken evap solenoid.

Is there any quick and dirty method to clearing this or do I have to take it to the dealership?

It comes from the solenoid that is attached to the passenger side cylinder head. I think solenoid is the correct word to use.

I have attached an image of the solenoid that I found online, with the area that is pretty thin and weak that I accidentally broke circled. All it takes is a tug on the hose and it could snap the thin part of it. I tried fixing it with JBweld as I had a car show to go to the next morning, but I am told that all it takes is a pinhole to throw an error code.

Take a look at yours when you can and you will see what I am talking about. I can upload a better pic tonight when I get home.

No, light gray plastic. I was removing the hose and gave it a pull and it snapped. It was around 4am. :) When you look at yours, you will see a really thin tubular part just above the part that the bottom of the hose is attached to...it broke there.

I fixed it by just replacing the entire unit...30 bucks or so at the dealership. Now I just need to clear the error code that driving with the the "fixed" one.

I'll get a better pic tonight.

I found a couple more pics of the entire unit online.

Where is broke was right between the plastic collar and where it tapers down on h gray part.

hmmm. the engine code still isnt going off? maybe driving it around a bit will clear it. but if not i would say take it in. i have had a few codes throw on past vehicles and after repairing them, i drive it or let it run a bit and it normally clears itsself.

Yeah, I haven't driven it since I put the new part in the other day. I guess I need to take it out and eat some competition. ;)

If anything, this thread can serve as a warning...that piece is semi-tough...but WILL break if enough force is put on it.

I dont know where you live but if there is an AutoZone near you they will clear the CEL for free, if not i'd check around at your local auto parts stores.
