Borla Headers, CARB, What?

Looking over the installation instructions for the Borla LT headers, and came across something odd. First, we all know that it is illegal to re-position the CATs, which LT headers do. Secondly, the Borla LTs are the only aftermarket header that does not give an option for CATs. One of the steps in the installtion process is to install the C.A.R.B sticker under the hood.

Forget about relocation of the CATs, how in the world can Borla get C.A.R.B approval for a product that removes CATs?

I must be missing something here.

their made for OFF ROAD use only. it clearly says on the headers when ordered. lucky for me, i have no e chack and running the borla headers is ok. i dont think its relocating the cats thats the issue. i think its not running any at all. the borla headers are not meant to run with cats.

In most places altering the factory exhaust at all is illegal. Repositioning the CATS is illegal.

I understand about the whole cat thing, not designed to run with them...but C.A.R.B. has nothing to do with "off-road"

It is against Federal law to remove or alter the position of the catalytic converters. The fact that your state does not do a check does not make it legal.

Aren't C.A.R.B. numbers supposed to be on the parts themselves? Anybody could make a sticker. What's next? An off road pipe with a C.A.R.B. number on it?

Smartass. I was trying to give you and the poster the proper information, not comment on your choice of exhaust.

Unless you live in California, the California Air Resources Board doesn't mean much to you. The CARB numbers everyone is talking about are E.O. (Exemption) numbers. You wont see them on long tubes.. ever.. The sticker that comes with the Borla LT's is a sticker warning that they are not for use on emissions controlled vehicles. No one in their right mind who is running these on their Camaro will put this sticker on. Its not an E.O. number.

I think the legality of cat removal has already been well covered.

The C.A.R.B. #'s only to show it legal to use in california on street driven vehicles. If it's on a removable sticker it must state the product the E.O.# is for.
That sticker being with the headers is most likely just a mistake, and for some other headers Borla makes.
