Best gas for 3.6 V6 2010 1LT?

What's the best gas to use in the 2010 V6? Dealer said I could use 87, and the manual said the same. Anybody notice a performance difference using a higher octane?

I think it is best to follow the manual. If the engine is not designed for higher octane, it will not be able to utilize it effectively and it will be a waste of money.

It actually says 87 or higher, but says you should use top tier gasoline.

On that note, I've noticed a bit of a difference (better) with mileage after using top tier gasoline.

But for the most part of my trips around town, I don't think it matters.

What does "top tier" gasoline mean? Is that octane or just using a well-known brand?

Thanks for the help guys. I've been using 91 so ill continue to do so. The car runs great. @Jason, I think he means premium gasoline by top-tier.

www.toptiergas.com

So like around here, Mobil, or Shell.

Our Speedway, sams club, BP, or Admirals don't count.

Section 9 page 48 of your owners manual will back up what skuttduck is saying. 87 octane and better for the V6 and 91 or better (with the best performance at 93 and above) for the V8. Top Tier gas is recommended but not required. I hope that helps answer your question.

I have the 2011 CTS Coupe with AWD and it has the same 3.6 DI V6... I was putting 89 in it, but will be putting only top tier 87 from now on. Gas mileage is pretty bad... worse than in the camaro... I'm assuming because of the AWD so no sense in throwing money away on 89 octane gas when 87 is what's recommended in the owner's manual.

My wife uses Mobil 87 octane in her V-6 and around town gets 21+ mpg, on a recent trip we averaged 27 mpg.Not bad for a car as heavy as the 2lt R/S.We always use brand name gas.

I think you'll get more power running 87 if the car is designed for that. For a given max timing advance programmed in, you want the more volatile fuel.

I noticed this on a Dakota 5.2L that I had hopped up. It ran harder on 87 than 93 and I think that was the reason.

Run the lowest octane you can without detonating or setting off knock retard.
