will there be any excitement left in the car if its released in 3-4 years
will there be any excitement left in the car if its released in 3-4 years
I was thinking that if GM waits to long its going to lose lots of sales. The excitement can last only so long. If we look at the car for the next 3-4 years without driving it, it starts to become old before it even hits the road. I'm hoping it comes out quickly, especially since it looks to be close to production (not alot of revisions needed before release). Assuming it doesn't come out quickly and it is finally released in say 2010, what do you think the consequences will be?

If it took another 3-4 years, it would hurt significantly, and if it were that far away, I doubt GM would have unveiled it this year.
Re: will there be any excitement left in the car if its released in 3-4 years
Same thoughts here. If it's not out in calender year 2008, GM will have problems IMO. If it is going to take that long, they shouldn't have debuted it this year.
I THINK the Mustang and Solstice had a concept one year, basically production model the next, and the cars on the street by late that same year. That would put Camaro out in '07, but even '08 would be ok. If they were talking '09, I'd have to seriously wonder about it. I'd certainly be in a Vette by then

I agree, it needs to be out by 2008 sometime. I won't be in the running for a new car for another 5 years, so I just may pick up a used C6 for the price of a Camaro.
Re: will there be any excitement left in the car if its released in 3-4 years
This is something that I think of all the time. Within 3-4 years, there will be a lot more cool stuff coming out that will steal the focus.
Not to mention, the people who will be 16 in 2009 and getting their licenses and seriously getting into cars will have been 9 in 2002 when the St. Therese plant closed. Then, most people would not have noticed the car and won't realize the history behind it.

The excitement may be kicked down a notch, unless they do something revolutionary to the car (to keep it from becoming 'old') before it hits the showroom floor.

This is something I've been wondering about as well. Especially since I was kind of excited when the '05 Mustang came out. Now I go look at them, and they're 'alright'. I have to see a special Mustang to get excited again.
However, with the Concept, it's just a bit different. My interest may not be as great later on as it is now, but I have to admit, the style of it (if the production is close) is something that I find very attractive.
Kind of like the Corvettes. It takes me awhile to get tired of looking at them!

I would still want one then. But it would probably hurt the number of sales to joe public. Just not me. Ill buy one whenever they come out.
Maybe ill get a better deal out of it if they wait...

I say yes. Your general public maybe if they were lucky say a quick shot of it on the news around NAIAS, and probably forgot about it just as fast.
I would have to say most people 'don't' go to auto shows, don't read camaroz28 message boards, etc........ So when the car comes out and they see it advertised; on dealer lots, then they will be interested...

I dont think GM would have debuted the concept this year if it wasnt gonna be out for another 4 years. Think about all the money they spent on the concept and the unveiling alone. Thats alot of money to flush down the toilet for a car that wont be out for another half decade.

When you look at car magazines now you see the new Camaro all over the place... people who knew nothing about it see it now when they go into department stores, gas stations, book stores, etc.
The show stealer at the 2006 shows will be replaced next year. GM needs this car out quick before everyone sees a lot more concept cars in the coming years that they may consider more desireable than the Camaro. I agree that 2008 is the longest they could wait before the car comes out if they want to maximize sales... 2008 may even be pushing it... even the end of 2007 puts it 1 1/2 years away.
I hope they announce something very soon... I'm looking to get a new car at the end of the year and would definately hold off if I found out I could get a new Z28 at the end of next year! I've thought about it, if I sold my car and bought a decent beater with no payment that would give me just enough time to save up a good enough down payment... bah... if I could find a dealership not marking it up $10K.

Looking at it from a business perspective and assuming that bulk of the Camaro sales would be by existing camaro enthusiasts most of whom own a camaro, it would make sense timing it for '09/'10.
Reason: By 2010 we would have aged our camaros enough to consider a new one. Right now, we're probably are at the prime of our camaros and maybe just kicked in some mods.
To keep the excitement, they should have then unveiled the concept a year before production (ie '08 or '09).
I-M-O.
