What up one and all, been a long time since my last post. I've been very, very, very , very busy with school and life in general. So I'm passing through like always to see what news has come down the pipe and I see that the Camaro is 2010 and something about the B-pillar(it's all so fuzzy). So, since my last visit I remember that the Camaro would come out 1Q08 as an 09 model? Am I right there? However after checking out the thread of how FbodFather had Facts about the Camaro I got confused very, very fast(doesn't take much though),saying something about being released 1Q09, and like I said it got fuzzy. What I WANT TO KNOW is, why is the year changed to 2010(was there a burp in planning?) and why is the Camaro getting the B-pilllar a good or notiable/noteworthy thing? Sorry, it'd help if I visited and stayed up-to-date but college life ain't a breeze. So please just fill me in, if anyone would be so kind and wouldn't mind. Thanks and Cyaz.(If any clarification is needed, note it and I'll try to clear things up.)

 

The reason for calling it the 2010 is because they're starting a bit askew to regular prodcution years, so the decided to call it the 2010 right from the start, thus making the 2010 production year for the Camaro longer then usual. I'm assuming another reason was to sell more of the first production year of cars.

And the B-pillar on the leaked pics is NOT FINALIZED. Supposedly it's going to be much less noticeable in the final product. And B-pillar is a good thing to have to help the roof not caving in if you roll over.

 

I dont remember anyone saying anything about first quater of 08. When they made the choice in mid 2006 to produce Camaro, they said production will start in late 08, on sale first quarter of 09, and they will call it a "2010" Camaro to get a jump-start on the new model year. Its a gimic GM's pulled in the past where you can get a NEW NEW 2010 Camaro instead of a "old" 2009 Mustang. Get it?

B-pillar had to be done due to the costs and weight of a pillarless coupe. Had they went with the pillarless coupe, the car would have to have a lot more structural reinforcement under the car as well as invest a lot more money into the car to make it side crash worthy. Its a small price to pay to have a safe ride in case some crazy b*tch in a Expeditionburban decides today is the day to talk on the cell and disreguard stop signs or red lights. The addition of the B pillar also helps cut down on weight since they dont have to put additonal bracing under the car.

 

I believe GM can charge $500-$700 more than a comparably equiped 2009 Mustang, since it will be a model year newer.

 

Don't be so sure this is the plan, Ford has been doing that for a while. There were 08 F-series HDs and and Edge/MKXs out since Feb, nice if you jump cars often cause you could in theory drive a car for almost a year and a half and sell it or trade it as a current modle year vehicle.

 

First off If I remember right GM never said it was a 09 Production Model, they said they will go in to production in 09 Everyone assumed it will be an 09 Model year.

So with that said the car will go in to production in late next year & come out in to the dealerships about Feb (if I remember correctly) of 09 as a 10 model year.


As for the b-piller it will make the car safer & ceaper to make which will put the savings on to us.

Now that everything is clear regarding the Camaro release what does this mean for the top dog? So many rumors say the top dog will come the follwoing year. Is this following model year or 12 months?

If the next model year, MY 2011, will have the top dog Camaro and it is released based on the regualr schedule it will be out Nov. 2010, about 22 months after the release of the MY 2010 Camaro. Or does this mean the top dog will have an early 2011 release similar to the MY 2010 Camaro and be released in Jan. 2010....or will it be a surprise late MY 2010 release in Nov. 2009??

Havent heard anything about when the high horsepower Camaro is coming out. Only that the convertible will be a model year behind the coupe. Model years generally start in late July, not November. GM makes the workers take a mandatory week off after the 4th of July break so the plant can be set up for the next model year. I have seen cars built in 7/06 that were titled 07s.

 

oh, I was just going by the release date of the new CTS and from my perception it seems most new cars hit the lots around Oct-Nov.

 

They may hit the lots in Oct-Nov. but production starts earlier than that. The production of the Camaro starts in late '08 but won't be in the showrooms until Feb. '09 I believe

 

Having had said type of stupid person decide to park their Explorer in the sail panel of my 91-Z28 (after cutting across 4 lanes of traffic), I for one am not bummed about the added reinforcement. Something about looking at the bumper of an Explorer smashing into your car about, oh, a foot from your head, tends to put you in a rather crappy mood.

B-pillar good, thing, very good thing. Don't want to be crushed by my own car that would really suck.

Thank you one and all, just one last question then I'll head by to my hiding place. I mentioned this before and I may have been dismissed as crazy, but once upon a time I remember seeing a car that from my perspective could switch between an standard transmission and an automatic transmission. I brought this up to a friend of mine and he called it "bump shift". Now I don't know if that's correct cuz I googled it and that's not what I'm getting. So does anyone know if something like that exist? If so what is it called and could the Camaro get it? Thank you all again. Cyaz

 

the newer M3 has one. i worked at a dealership and i thought it drove like CRAP. it sucked. most of the fun in driving a manual transmission is in the clutch work.
