Who was on "Gasoline Alley" Saturday when that freak rain/hailstorm happened?

fortunately I was inside watching the GM presos... hoping they knew how to pitch the tent proplerly so the roof wouldnt cave in.
intersting comment I heard on one of the track employees walkie talkies during the downpour.... "it's not raining here on turn 2"
you cant realize how big the track is until you see grandstands way off in the distance.

As I was checking out all 514 Camaro/Firebirds, I mentioned to my son that maybe we should have brought my black '89 IROC-Z, (instead of our '83), since it is in absolute showroom floor condition and there would be people here who could appreciate it. 15 minutes later it was pouring and hailing!
As we were cowaring under th Ilinois Camaro Club tent from the pelting rain, the club VP looked at me and said, "Charlie, I bet you're glad you brought your sh!tbox instead of the black car". Yup.

I too was inside the tent when it happened. It was kind of funny to see several people get up and leave when they heard thunder, so many that Al asked if there was a fire drill going on, and then to see the rest of the people go flying out the door when the downpour started! I noticed someone was having a hard time putting the top up on the convertible corvette outside the door when Scott came running up, grabbed the keys, and put it up as quick as he could.
The first time I went to the 500 two years ago, it started raining in turns three and four, but not in one and two where I was...and the day started out as a beautiful day just like Saturday did.

Yes the good ole' Indiana "pop-up thunderstorm" (Sung to MTV's pop-up videos) . It just forms above you and gets bigger as it SLOWLY moves. Fortunatley the hail didn't get any bigger than pea-sized and was pretty brief so all was good.

I was driving the Corvette when it started. It started sprinkling as I was coming down the last straight-a-way. Made the turn and droplets started hitting the windshield the GM guy said "gun it". So I did....I love that active exhaust on the Corvette. Pulled in got out, starting to really rain, helped the guy get the targa top out and attached to the roof. Then ran over to the pace-car display building and saw the Solstice GXP and a Corvette Convertible with the tops down. At this point it was really pouring then I saw some guy and Scott running out and trying to put the tops up on them. I should have video taped that or took some pics. The other guy was trying to put the top up on the Solstice and I didn't think he would ever get it up. The Solstice got soaked!

I was a member of the "fire drill", as I had left the top down on the SS and had no desire to ride around on wet sheepskins. I left Tom enjoying the Q&A and got the top up just in time to avoid the rain.

i was by my car and heard the thunder so i got my t-tops in and windows up long before any rain came down. we were in one of the open garages and twords the end when the rain was lighter a bunch of us went to the restrooms over on the second level of some of the garages and when we came back they had kicked everyone out of the garages... i dont know why it was such a big deal that people were sitting in a few open garages to stay dry, it wasnt like there was anything in there to steal
