What about Pontiac?
What about Pontiac?
Will there be a Pontiac version of the 5th Gen Camaro? If so what will it be called? I've only heard rumors about it but nothing definitive. Can someone please get back to me on this?
Since this is about the 2009 Camaro, I have moved it to that forum. Check the sticky "Super FAQ" thread at the top of it. That answer is in there.
Of course, all that information is subject to change, since it often does.
Will there be a Firebird?
No. The GTO will take over as Pontiac's halo car. It's a better bet for Pontiac, since it will be the larger, more "upscale" RWD V8 coupe. Thus, not competing with the Camaro.

No Firevbirds are planned anytime in the near future if ever.
Look for a coupe with a longer wheel base than the Camaro to show up if anything. It also will be a more expensive car thant he Camaro too.
If it appears it could be a GTO or some other name but not a Bird.
The only thing for sure if there is no Bird in the works.

There's been very very little mentioned about a future GTO. With the announcement of the G8, a RWD performance sedan, I'd be shocked to see Pontiac without a RWD performance coupe in their lineup.
Some of the things mentioned above have been hinted as a possible direction things could go. Time will telll.

The new autoweek says that the camaro is still TWO YEARS AWAY.
It will be here in early 2009. This is based on an interview with lutz.
I think alot could change in two years. Funny how they can make a gto but not
a firebird.

What does the sticky have to do with a new autoweek issue quoting lutz?
And yes, I've read about all of the bogus reasoning behind keep the firebird dead.
GM will not sell 100,000 camaros alone.
Continue to hate on the firebird all you want.

I was just trying to set the record straight.
, maybe someone at GM will take a look at this and consider creating a concept Firebird/GTO.
