VCM switch?

I know GM is talking about VCM(Variable cylinder management) in their V8 for the Camaro. Do you think they will have a switch to turn this off if you so desire? I know the Honda's VCM is full time and can't be disabled. What other cars does GM currently use this technology in?

P.S. I was taking a guess at VCM. GM probably calls it something else.

GM calls it AFM (active fuel management) and does not currently install a switch.

Why would you want one?

Why would you want one is a good point. However, for the less practical of us, we want a switch. My car will have flowmasters or chambered exhaust, and I do not want my car switching engine notes all the time.
At least when I am in a sporty mood I would want to turn it off.
I hate to say it, but if the Camaro comes with AFM and no switch, I think I might have to get a Solstice Targa or something.

The switch is called the gas pedal. The MDS works well(seamless) on my 300C. An indicator light would have been entertaining for a couple of days.

Not so seamless in sound and thats what he is talking about. In the LX cars its not so noticiable with stock exhaust but upgrade it or mod it and its very apparent. I cutout the suitcase muffler on my charger and I could defintely tell when it kicked in. When I put the corsa exhaust on it was still very apparent.

In 15+ years when the Camaro is powered by an electric/hydrogen powerplant exhaust tones won't exist. However, people will miss it so much, they'll offer a tunable sound system that plays "exhaust tones" inside and outside of the vehicle so you can feel like you're driving an old fashioned ICE.

My Silverado shows V4 or V8 mode in the DIC when instant fuel economy is selected as the display.

Get a manual, current tech wont allow for VCM/AFM/MDS to work with them, only automatics.

Problem solved.

Wouldn't a switch negate the whole point of buying a vehicle with the system? Plus much like CAGS, it prbly improves mileage even if you don't like it.

I have a question for those who have AFM...
I was wondering if the motor idles in 4 or 8 cylinder mode ? With the traffic I've been experiencing lately, I'm sure I would save a ton of money/fuel....

Yes but CAGS is easily disabled, hence the question.
