To me it's about "tone" and not "volume".... I took off the B&B PRT on my C5 because it droned and was generally too obnoxious....
I love the sound of the LS7 in the new Z06 even without the open valves. It's a lower, "meatier" sound than the almost European sound of the LS1 C5's.
I 'thought' I heard some of this sound on the latest film clip at the NBR....

It doesn't have to be obnoxiously loud in order to sound sweet. Getting a good exhaust note is sort of an art form.
I know lots of guys who simply bolt the LOUDEST exhaust system up, and think it sounds good. But all it is to me is ear splitting noise. No tone, no burble, no nothing - just loud noise.

Agreed with all three of you guys above.
Just going louder doesn't always sound better. I've heard plenty of LOUD exhausts that sound like @ss. Hell, there's a guy in my neighborhood with a red SS that's just outright annoying.
My 01 SS with the SLP CME was the first "stock" exhaust note I've ever been happy with and didn't replace. My Z06 is the second.
Not a doubt in my mind that GM can get the sound right.....if they want to.
As far as butterflies being expensive.....true, but I think plenty of folks would be willing to order it if it was an option. Or better yet, just make it standard on the blown Bad-@ss. If someone's already dropping the bucks on the supercharger, I don't think they'd be opposed to the extra cost for a dual mode exhaust.

Damn shame they got rid of the 04 mufflers for the 05s in favor of their dump truck sound. I don't know why they didn't just make new tailpipes for the new rear fascia.
They need to have the team that did the 04 GTO exhaust work on the 5th gen. Period. Probably the best sounding stock GM exhaust in history.

Turns out there were a lot of people that didn't know any better and would rather have a loud car.
I have an SLP Dual-Dual on my Formula because it is basically as quiet as stock (except it sounds 1 billion times better). Had the LTs/cats into the stock muffler for a while but it just sounded kind of weird.

I thought the sound of the Camaro testing at the Ring sounded fine to me. If that was the LS3 as I think it was it sounded great IMO. I think true dual's sound better and that we'll get a lot of the tone we wanted from the 4th gen LS1 F-bodies but never got from the Y pipe.
I agree tone and less rasp is better than all out loud and drone.
The C6 Z06 and the optional exhaust '08 LS3 Vettes sound great. But I understand that butterfly valves are not cheap.

The Magnaflows I've used before weren't the loudest, but flowed the most air, and made the most HP. Some FM's really slow the flow..
I don't care for a crackly, raspy loud exhaust note either..
If I wanted loud, I'd go back to the exhaust on my '67 Firebird 400, which was; Headman headers, 2 1/2"California Red long tube glass packs and rear wheel exits!
I could drown out dump trucks at red lights!
My mom hated that car b/c it would rattle the what-nots off the window sills when I pulled up in the drive.
