Some people just have to have the V8, but don't want to pay for the other stuff. I'd rather have a 300hp 4.8 (which no, I don't think we'll get) than a 300hp VVT 3v 3.9 V6 as an optional base motor...by a long shot. Some people want the sound and the feel of a V8, and won't buy a Camaro if they can't afford that. You can definitely put me in that group...
And I 'Third' that opinion. I'm not as up on my Camaro history as some, so here's my question; weren't the last model Camaros offered with just a single package, high output and top-of-the-line car? If that's true, didn't that cut down on the sales? Just wondering...

It's pretty apparent that this won't be a repeat of the 4th gen.
I mean purely cosmetic. They need to be different enough so that the average joe will be like o thats an ss.. thats a z28... thats *just* a v6 (i personally hear that one ALL the time)

I say this RS be HID lights, stripes package, HUD (although that can be a stand alone option), maybe billet or diamond (like ctsv) grille, and different taillights

Re: The RS...

The 96-97 is what hurt the Z28/SS deal. It was aparently what day of the week they were made that made one faster than another. In '97 average Joe/Jane couldnt tell the difference in the two wheels between a base 5 spoke and the 17" SS wheel. And those LT1 SS hood NEVER did fit right.

It is my understanding that cosmetic differences are planned.

Re: The RS...

They should definately do an R/S package(make the stripes deletable for those who don't want them ). I loved the 1st gen R/S models, and am more partial to 68's, but the Z/28 R/S's in 69 were one of my favorites, and I would definately buy a new Z/28 R/S Camaro!

Re: The RS...

Hideaway RS headlights are cool, but not nearly as exposed for my tastes. I think they should be an option though. I think it needs to be determined whether RS means the hideaway headlights blacked out tail lights and alternative location back up lights, or just a base V8...

Good glad to hear that. Thats one thing that i always thought could of helped the 4th gens - maybe if the Z28's had cowl hoods

o i just got a crazy idea... whod be up for a shaker hood (not necessarily for RS but as a general idea say for the SS or Z28)

Re: The RS...

I was one who said the RS should come out. And should have a small V8.

The RS was available in all the other body styles, so I don't see it changing for the 5th. But it was only an appearance package as many others have said. I think it'd just be a little cooler if it came with a nice entry level V8, to be a step over the V6. But then again, having the appearance option for RS available on all models would only increase sales.

But the chances of the 5.3L or even the 4.8L V8s being a stand alone option, is pretty hard to imagine in this day.

Wow! It's nice to see so many who love the RS.Not to mention who also like the idea of messing up the order of things. An RS kicking the behind of any mustang that steps up. I like the idea that Camaro25thann had. That's my kind of V8. And as the new sig implies, give me my stripes along with my V8 and I'll be a happy man. Or at least the fusion of the trim levels like back in the day.

The order of things? Thats the whole problem. RS means hidden headlights NOT base model. You can have a Z28 RS an SS RS or just a base RS. When RS became the base model it changed the meaning of the name...

I believe the SS RS had the SS badge with three slat hidden headlights
The Z28 RS had the Z28 Badge with three slat hidden headlights
and the base model RS had the RS Badges with hidden headlights

Also the RS trim meant that the rear tail lights were blacked out rather then red and the back up lights were moved to the bottom panel.
