Report: Chevrolet considering other historical names for supercharged Camaro

Re: Report: Chevrolet considering other historical names for supercharged Camaro
I like ZL1 and think it fits an uber priced supercharged Camaro well. It also doesn't get tread into the Z28 purist issue. But if SLP owns that name and already has a tuner Camaro wearing its not likely. But there was a time when SLP had the SS before Chevy did.
Really I think that for an all new Camaro in a new generation I'd like to see GM create a new halo car name. But we know it's not easy to create a new brand image.

True - ZL1 does fit the higher priced, uber powerful version of the Camaro. In fact ZL1 was first used on the 1st generation high end Camaro with the 427 ci engine (rated at 430hp).
Also true - SLP is currently using ZL1 as their top dog version of the Supercharged 7.0L(427 ci) Camaro SS(which is said to make about 750hp).
So unless - Chevy plans to take away SLP's rights to use ZL1 - it may be best just to use a variation of the Z28 badge for the new high end performance Camaro.
In other use either
Z28, Z-28, or Z/28.
The Suggestion that Chevy use of IROC-Z - is pointless. The IROC-Z only got that name because the Camaro Z28 was used in the IROC(International Race of Champions) series- at that time. So neither Chevy nor GM own the IROC name.
Yes it possible that Chevy could come with a different Z-badge. However why shouldn't they just stick with a badge that is familiar to Camaro lovers - i.e. Z28, or ZL-1.

now that im done helping the derailment of the thread, thanks silverado27!, we can get back to posturing, suggesting, and blindly guessing as to what Chevrolet/GM will do for the next 8-12 months.

...
ZL1 - I believe that the name is currently owned by SLP. If so, a new partnership between SLP and Chevrolet would likely be required for the car to be called that.
Anything can happen, but I think if something is shown and it is what we think it is and it is not called Z28, that would be like Grandma serving fish at Thanksgiving. It will work, but everyone will be surprised and confused.

You can be confusing sometimes Jason...

OMG yes on the blue bow tie! I also like that heritage grille when I usually dont. Im not positive but I think they made it black when its usually body color. That grille looks good like that as does the blade spoiler..

Re: Report: Chevrolet considering other historical names for supercharged Camaro
ZL1 was an engine, not a model, and it's owned by SLP anyway. SS was a great or bland performing cruiser depending on what you ordered and it's already in use. Z28 was the raciest, all-around, and most performance-focused Camaro. The ONLY reason to call it something different is if they are going to save the name for a direct Boss competitor, otherwise this car should be named Z28. That's that! If anything else happens then the Camaro Team needs a lesson in Camaro history.
BTW, calling it IROC-Z wouldn't be right. Not only is the series gone, but they are one of, if not the most well-known Camaro models of all time and alot of people have memories and a fondness for what made that name. Besides, naming a 5th Gen after a car that reduced weight/dimensions greatly over it's previous Gen, took Camaro handling to vast new places, helped bring back power to musclecars, sold in record numbers, became an icon, and that had award winning and innovative design without blatantly copying it's predecessors.....wouldn't fit the 5th Gen.
