A question for Red

Red, it is quite apparent the the 5th shares much in common with the 1st gen, as far as design goes. However, it is also apparent that the NAIAS concept will differ from the leaked concept in various ways. You have mentioned in the past about a 5th gen that shares styling cues from all Camaro generations. Will the NAIAS concept (or better yet, the production car) have more 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen in it? I really don't see a whole lot of any of those generations in the car, and I think it is a shame to exclude some of their design philosophies from the 5th gen. I am 23, I grew up with neither the 1st or 2nd gen. I did, however, grow up with the 3rd and 4th gen, and would like to see at the very least some minor, actually noticable, styling exercises from those generations (although I feel 2nd gen should be included as well.) You yourself have stated you were pleased with the way the 4th gens came out, surely there are others at GM that feel the same way. Obviously the car is going to be more 1st gen than anything, but I would hope it wouldn't be just 1st gen only. The 1st gen was only 3 years long.

I second that motion.

However, I am sure it is too late and I also feel that all the other gens are and will be excluded, which is a shame.

Perhaps it is not too late to add some cues from the other all generations to the over all 1st gen design? Or maybe it was already done? Or not, who knows (well, obviously one of us on here knows.)

Re: A question for Red

I still find it ironic that a car design that was around for 3 years is the lead theme in a car created nearly 40 years after the '67, yet there were 32 other model years that most of us remember a helluva lot better.

With that said, I LIKE the concept. I don't LOVE it, but is it really that retro? I see some themes...but I also see a sharp, 2 door rakish coupe. Works for me...with that said, something less retro in the front would make me a happy camper, and keep people from saying "it looks like a Mustang."

Re: A question for Red

and THIS, once again, is a good reason why the pictures should have never been posted!

Perhaps I'm missing something, but the posts above THIS post.......all great guys (enthusiasts) by the way......have already jumped to conclusions!

who said what you saw is the real thing? It's painfully obvious that the car is a clay and that it's divided down the middle as a design exercise to look at two similar, yet different proposals.

Stop jumping to conclusions.......please.......and I'm BEGGING you......please withhold any proclamation until you see the concept in person.

and I'm gonna say this once again.

THE PICTURES WERE NOT INTENTIONALLY LEAKED. SOMEONE STOLE THEM AND OTHERS PUT 'EM UP ON THE NET.

Actually, I haven't jumped to any conclusions. I thought I made it obvious I was aware that the NAIAS car would be different, and that the production car would differ from that as well. It is just obvious to me that the car was primarily designed around the 1st gen at some point in time (I, like most on this board, have no idea when the clay model was done), and seeing that we have been told this will be the "general" shape, I dont' see the overall body changing too much. I would really like to see some other generations of Camaro in the production car. Perhaps they are already there? All I know is it would go a long way in pleasing me (and several others) in the end result. I do think the clay concept was good looking as it is though.

I see no retro in that car at all like some are suggesting. I see a sharp well proportioned muscle car. It's as much as retro car as the 300c IMHO.

I agree, actually I think its more like when the 4th gen came out, it looked like a continuation of the 3rd gen style. with a modern sleek flair.

This car has the cues of a pony car..and has the cues that made the Camaro such an icon.

I have a feeling this car that we saw is just a precursor to what will really blow our minds..and the proverbial edges of what we saw will be smoothed out and we will see the David Ortis home run at the show...

Re: A question for Red

Before they went down, that photochop with the thirdgen type nose / grille covering made it look a lot like a hatchless coupe thirdgen. Not the real thirdgen notch, but what it would have looked like designed as a coupe IMO.

In other words, an evolution of the most muscular haunched car (1st gen) with the perfect blend of edges and curves on a faster looking nose.

I see no 4th gen in it at all, but that's all good to me.

Re: A question for Red

The more I look at it, the more I like it.
Personally, I don't care as much about the looks, but I do know that it will help the car sell. I care more about the bang for buck I can get. Heck, us Camaro guys were all over the c5 z06 when it came out, and visually it was just a brake-duct away from a stock looking c5 (not to say the c5 was ugly).
And if I can't get bang for buck, which I'm guessing I won't because insurance agencies will have a field day with a 500hp 20k camaro , then I would like a car sensitive to mods. But I can see how it would be hard for GM to build a 450hp car, and put some restrictive exhaust to give it 350hp, and make available some exhaust from GM Performance Parts, that would give us that 450hp without voiding the warranty.
...Uh...I think I'm just greedy.

edit: Maybe we will be able to add 4 GM perf parts before our warranty voids. GM would be able to take bit of money from the aftermarket.

Alright, guilty as charged, sir As I have said in other posts, I AM waiting for the release to give "my official opinion" (just wanted to sound more important than I am ). I have to say, at first glance I am impressed. There are cues that I wish were different, however as you said...this sucker isn't done.

I'm just really, really excited for January

No matter WHAT my opinion of the leaked pics is, I'm still looking forward to Detroit . I'm still hoping to get blown away .

Re: A question for Red

And it usually seems to take a year or so of production to get the feedback into the product and complete the look...It took 2 years to get the halo'd '69 Z28.
