guess its a bad thing that no matter what i get. the cherry gets busted! bought my 93z off a member on a here with a 383 and all the mods. put a nastier lsx motor in it with full suspension immediately. the 72 i will not even get into. however have a reg cab zq8 colorado here that i want to do a ls2 swap on!

Im thinking that maybe the official time from GM was achieved by letting the transmission shift on its own. I would bet that some better times will be had by manually shifting it at a more proper RPM.

I disagree ... remember, I had 4.10's behind the 4L60E in my car for a couple years, and it launched GREAT . Even on STREET tires, I could cut 1.9x 60' times at the track! I suffered very little wheel-spin, even on the streets, and what spin I did get, was very minimal and easily controllable.

Keep in mind something else about the 5th-gen ..... tall tires. They're what, ~28" tall? Compared to the 26" tires of the 4th-gens, the 5th-gen is already coming with a "higher" ratio in it, gear-for-gear. So a 3.40-something gear will act like a higher ratio in the 5th-gen. Low ratios (ie: 4.10's) will seem less "extreme" than they used to. I can see ~4.30's, perhaps even ~4.56's becoming a common mod for at least a FEW brave folks .

This might work. I just did the math, and 4th gear on a 6L80E with 3.45:1 rear gears should be good for 141mph. No reason to be shifting into 5th already...

When you work the ratios out, 1st gear on a 6L80 with 3.45 rear gears and 28" tires is an almost-identical overall ratio to 1st gear on a 4L60E with 4.10 rear gears and 26" tires. Based on that, I am inclined to argue that the 5th gen should get off the line quite well from the factory!
