Production date Theory

.....Correct me if i'm wrong....

Wasn't the Pontiac Solstice build in 1 1/2 years from it's original concept ??

Well 1 1/2 years from Jan 06 is July 07 the same month as the Transformer movie featuring a car the doesn't exists yet...

Also isn't there a "fully funtional" concept out there now? It had to have been built somewhere...

Is it possible we will see it by fall of 07 or am I just thinking to hard ?

Anyone seen this video yet ???

Possible? Yes. Assuming everything went picture picture with no delays.

Likely? No. I'm going with the majority that say early 2008 is when they'll hit lots

yes, the silver concept is fully working.. and was hand build and cost millions and millions to build

The Transformers Movie have a camaro that just looks like a camaro.. under the skin is something else.

I think you are thinking too hard.. but lets keep the hopes up. GM knows they need to bring it to the market the fastest the better. So, we will see it soon.. how soon? that we will ahve to wait and see.

Yeah I'm will to bet we hear something official by the end of July, but as I've repeated 1000 times, mid 2008 is the best guess on the earliest production date.

Well....uh.....

I was at the introduction when they drove it out from it's storage place, and drove it down Cobo Hall to it's display. I also remember the Dodge Super 8 Concept and the Chevy SS being on video as well. Means nothing in itself.

Also, the Solstice concept was shown at the NAIAS in Detroit in January 2002. The production Solstice came out about 8-9 months ago as a late 2006 model. By my math, that's 4 1/2 years, not 1 1/2.

Next, a "concept" is just that... a concept. More correctly, a design exercise. Now a days, most all concepts are functional. The Chevrolet SS, the Dodge Charger SS, the 2 passenger Mustang from almost 15 years ago, even that Ford Cobra from a couple of years ago & recent Super Chief are all functional, yet had little to do with production vehicles.

As for where the "functional" Camaro was built, it tells you right on the liscense plate: GM Design. They have a studio in North Hollywood Ca, and of course, in Detroit. There's also a place in Orange County California called Metal Crafters (I used to live near there) that does concept cars for Detroit makers, and I believe ther is another couple of private businesses in the Detroit area that do work for them as well.

As for when you'll see a Camaro on the streets, there is WAY more that determines "when" than where engineering is. There is plant availability, priorities of other models, and most importantly......MONEY! GM has a ton of new vehicles that's in the pipeline before Camaro. There is also no plant available for the new Camaro (outside of Wilmington) before spring-summer 2008.

You almost certainly won't see a new Camaro before very, very late 2007, and that's only if it goes to Wilmington, and that's not a certainty.

The only promising thing about Camaro is that the car is obviously very far along. The only evidence (outside of a clutter of info from various people involved in the project) are the leaked detailed CAD of the floorpan and suspension last December that the car is very well along.

Point is, never go by a concept alone in judging when a car will be out. Watch vehicle plant schedules, word from OEM suppliers, and know the amount of time it takes to clear federal regulations (all automakers need to submit many items well in advance of production).

.....also, in recent years, following everything Bob Lutz says helps alot.

It should be said though Guy that work on the Solstice project was held up for almost 2 solid years.

So it was still technically done in about 2 years.

We know work on the Camaro has been going on for months now (maybe even a year)

That said, it should be easy to see a Camaro on the lots by 2008 like you said.
