Re: OFFICIAL KaleidoLINKS 2011 OLOA thread
Anyway, the gist of it before I start yelling and screaming at the TV for the F1 Grand Prix of Turkey was that I wish I was kidding about the on-star thing. It wasn't fun. Also, the truly frightening part is that the next day they kept calling non-stop about engine codes the car was throwing for the exhaust system, etc... and GM confirmed that it was never activated in the car and wasn't active. Lol, Big Brother is watching... that's all I'm saying.
Thanks for following along! I wish we'd placed better, and had more coverage... that'll be 2012. We will be in a few magazines though, so we definitely got some good PR out of this for the non-profit and the Camaro. The editor of Camaro Performers was running a '67 Camaro (which we did beat
) at the event, and she interviewed me yesterday before we left and we're going to stay in touch about the car and the non-profit. I figured a few people on here might read that so I'll let everyone know when it comes out. We should have a little bit in Motor Trend, and GM _____ something. lol, I was half asleep yesterday, I'm pretty sure I still am.No, I'm both happy and unhappy with how we finished. This was my first OLOA, and it's definitely an event that doesn't really suit drivers like me. It's not like a race weekend where you've got practice, qualifying, and then a race. It's show up, and you've got 3 qualifying laps on a possibly unknown track, a green track, green tires, etc... and that's a good way to hurt a car. Still, we learned a lot... we spent the first 3 days chasing tire pressures and fighting the car. By Barber I think we finally got a handle on pushing it and the handling quirks. The nice thing is I got to make a list of things I didn't like for chassis tuning in the future. And some things we need to work on with the GM engineers as far as electrical systems are concerned.
The '67 was a gorgeous car, btw. Unfortunately my video camera ran out of batteries 15 seconds into the session we ran together at Autobahn's North Course. That would have been a neat session too. I catch the '67 and the back straight is so bumpy it actually slams my head into the roof of the car, and my foot misses the brake pedal, so I ended up braking about 150ft later than I'd wanted... which made the next 2 turns rather interesting. Harnesses are nice...
I have to say the Camaro really has grown on me, we'll see how the race car turns out. Again, Thanks for following along guys! I'll hopefully have some neat pictures of the build up over the next few months.
