Now it is our turn to drive the Camaro Concept!

Okay, as long as the weather holds out, Chris Frezza and I will be getting behind the wheel of the Camaro Concept early next week to take it for a (gentle) spin or two.

If there are any particular questions about the car (that are not blatantly obvious) please ask them here so that we may be able to look into them when the time comes.

Please bear in mind that the Concept performance, ride and handling is nothing like what a production vehicle would be so we won't be focusing much on it. We will be focusing on the feel of being present in and around the car from a driver/owner perspective, which is one we know not many will get the chance to experience...at least with the Concept.

So let's hope for good weather early next week!

I would like to know your impression of the visibility and feel of the 'cockpit' when compared to the 4th gen cars. How does the car feel around you compared to the 4th gens.

We will most definitely pay close attention to that.

but anyways... take a close look at how the gauges feel and the ergonomics of the interior.. how easy is it to get to play with the radio while doing a 360 or a burnout! lol

May be stupid but see how easy it is to read those console gauges on the fly. I actually like them and hope they stay but also hope that they are readable at a glance

I'd like overall impressions of the size of the car...with a guess at actual production dimension changes.

Cockpit height, seating height, blindspots, etc... too.

Well as my wife has rode in it and she says it is easy to see the front of the car and the seats are very comfortable to sit in. As to radio and such Scott has told us the dash would be alot different than the concept and would have a radio much more easy to work without looking at it to change anything. Things on the dash would be easy to use without taking your eyes off the road as the car is now. That being said I also love the gauges in the console if for looks alone. Its a nice touch for the car. The dash will be alot more user friendly on the real car thats for sure. Finally my wife can't wait for a new vert in it.

Do you get to drive it on public roads, or around GM's test loop? I'm guessing the latter. Buf if I'm wrong, I want to know how many heads turn and jaws drop as you go by.

Will you be allowed to take pictures? Try to get a shot of each of you behind the wheel. The size of your respective ****-eating grins should be enough to tell us everything we need to know about the car.

Above all, I think you should pay attention to one thing: does it feel like a Camaro?

i'm curious about the back seat.. i never got a chance to look closely at the interior in person, and you really cant tell from pictures.. see if they let you try to sit in the back seat to see how it relates to a 4th gen..

Most importantly Head room in a 1st gen is alot better than a 4th gen. How is it in the concept?

How wide does it feel from inside? Do you think the width would feel manageable in every day driving

Front leg room, is there a considerable distance between passenger knees and the dash

1st gen you can see the whole hood, can you in the concept?

how is the view out the sides with the 1/4 windows, and with them down?

I've been lurking on this forum since the concept came out and I haven't seen a need to post anything until now. Since you'll be speaking directly with the people developing the car, there is one feature I'd like to see as an option on the car. I'd like the stereo system operate similarly to Sony's MEX-1GP radio. The face of the radio has 4GB of memory and detaches so you can download MP3's from your PC to it.

Sony MEX-1GP detached face

Another idea is for the radio capable of reading SD memory cards, so you can download MP3 to the cards.

The key to such a radio will be the interface; it will have to be easy to navigate through your music on it or it will be too hard to use while driving.

Hi John, welcome to the boards!

While that sounds nice, Lexus just added high-capacity storage to the factory radio in the new LS. I think it's going to be a while before you see features like that in a Chevrolet.

Unfortunately, I don't think this is quite the right venue for your suggestion.

Many recent GM cars have had front aux input jacks, allowing you to connect your iPod or other music player. I'd say it's a safe bet that at least one available stereo option on the new Camaro (if they build it ) will have the aux input jack. For the time being, I think that's the best you're going to get.

It will be on GM private property.

We will be getting pictures and video of that. That is our goal, as mentioned above.

Who said we were talking to developers?

I don't know if they had gotten that for or even if they are interested in making something like that. They probably want to leave that up to the iPod since many of their existing solutions simply allows for iPod integration. I am guessing it would most likely be an OE solution similar to what they currently use. Bose, Monsoon, or even Pioneer () like in the Cobalt.

Regardless, if we get the chance, we will indeed ask.
