The gang at Hurst Performance Vehicles are unleashing their first ever turbocharged machine in honor of the 40th anniversary of the introduction of the BFGoodrich Radial T/A. Only 50 of the Redline Series Hurst Camaros are to be produced annually with each powered by a force-fed 3.6-liter V6. Power will flow to 18-inch Hurst T1 wheels with new Radial T/A Spec tires.

Hurst installs what it calls a "remoted-mounted" turbocharger on its modified exhaust, which actually doesn't sound like a very good idea if you're concerned about lag. Output should be about 360 horsepower and 320 pound-feet at the rear wheels - a 50-percent bump from stock. Inside, the turbocharged Camaro gets a pistol grip shift lever, custom leather upholstery and floor mats and an optional gauge package.

The Redline Series Camaro will sticker in the mid-$50,000 range depending on the options selected.

360HP equals a 50% increase in power? I guess my math skills are not the best, or maybe they mean torque.

Over $25,000 extra for less than 60 HP, and not my idea of a good looking stripe package.

I guess my question would be, would anyone pay mid 50's IF this was a typo and they meant 460hp?

thats 360hp at the wheels for a V6.
The stock V6 makes 312 at the flywheel

Around 360 at the wheels equals what, mid 400's at the crank? Brings me right back to my question, would you pay mid 50's for mid 400's at the crank?

The SS stick is 430 at the crank for less than $40,000, loaded(2SS/RS). How much does it cost to pay a pro to put an Eforce on an SS and buy Edelbrock's warranty(Eforce+install labor+warranty)? Can it be done for under 50K? If so, your between 550 and 600 at the crank for around 50K, maybe less.

If I get a 5th Gen it will be an L99. If I were given a choice between this remote turbo V6 and a 2SS/RS auto, I'd take the V8. GMPP's CAI + cat back exhaust should have me around 420-430 with full warranty AND no lag.

Cool idea, albeit a little pricey for my tastes. If someone were to package a bolt-on turbo kit for the 3.6L V6 (that's 50-state emissions legal of course) there'd definite be a market for it. Especially when you consider you can pick up slightly used 2010 LS Camaros for $21-23k, add the turbo kit, and then customize it anyway you desire and still be into it for less that the price of a new SS.

However mid $50k's for a turbo V6? Nuts.

I can only see this working with one of two changes; either drop the price to the mid $40K's or leave the price in the mid $50K's and change it from a single rear mount turbo to twin front mount turbos putting out horse power in the mid 500 range.

I realize people are willing to pay $25K to $30K or more over stock for 'tuner' cars from Callaway and Lingenfelter etc, but will people pay that big a premium for a V6 with under 500 HP?

What will it mean if they do sell all 50? Is there a market out there for hi power V6's Camaros with less power than similarly priced V8's that have more power? I don't see this working, but I've been wrong before.

i like the idea ofthe turbo. i just dont like the "remote mount" part about it.

Remote turbo is better than no turbo, but not $25,000 better.

and yes I know it get's different wheels, hood stripes, leather seats, and a Hurst shifter too, but you could get TWO 1LT/RS 2011's for $55,000.

or even a s/c ss that will be much quicker than the turbo v6.
