Why couldnt they just say "based on the Corvette's 6.2 LS3"
They just HAD to put that DI Small Block in a truck.

Could be worse. It could read,

"The '09 Chevy Camaro is rumored to get new 290hp version of the turbocharged Ecotech that debuted in the Solstice GXP. Transversely mounted, witha five speed manual transaxle, it will ensure that the new Camaro truely expresses the 21st century interpertation of the classic "musclecar."

I guess the question is, if this does get put in the camaro, will this still be considered the "base" engine, or will it be destined for the Z28?

Everything points to "base V8" with the "top dog" getting a supercharged version.

Of course there will also be a "base V6" and a few others as well.

That's a given

Unfortunately, I agree as well, that's one hell of an engine for a base model car, but then again...

I'm still happy with the "400 HP" that's been predicted, anything else (as long as there is not a $$$$ cost increase) is just a bonus

My fiance is even a bit excited about the car... go figure... it'll smoke her corolla, that's for sure

i'm guessing LS3= base v8, and DI 6.2=super v8

much like the CTS is now.. regular 3.6 and DI 3.6

So do you have info on a 290ph Turbo Ecotech?? I was looking at getting a Sky Redline with the 260hp 2.0, but if there is an upgrade coming down the line perhaps I should wait.

Just to clear this up...

I misspoke when I said "base V8". My guess, based upon the rumors I have read, is that this will be the powerplant in the top V8 available initially. The top dog Camaro will get a supercharged version, however it won't be available in the first year and possibly not until year 3.

At least that's how I read it.

I just read that GM is keeping the LS7 in production as a mid-level perf. vette model. Now imagine an LS7 with direct injection in the camaro, oh baby can you say 550+hp.

That's what I figured.

I think 400hp is still more than enough for me to hurt myself

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a high-output V6 that's close to 400hp at this point.
