NEWS: "Camaro Essence" Video Gives Viewers a Design Tutorial
DETROIT — According to a new video called "The Camaro Essence", the 2010 retro muscle car's influence is being felt throughout the Chevrolet lineup.
"It has an influence on everything we're doing at Chevy," said Ed Welburn, General Motors vice president of global design, who walks viewers through a quick design tutorial of the redesigned Camaro. He emphasizes that not all future Chevrolets will look like the Camaro, but says they will retain some of its spirit.

The video gives some clues about how the Camaro made it from concept to production. Welburn said he told the design team that he wanted a car "inspired by the first-generation Camaro." The result is a vehicle that he says "has the character of the concept." Welburn says the rear quarter of the production vehicle is "one of my favorite areas — very strong, very powerful."
"My car looks so old next to this new car, and that's the way it should be," he says in summary.

Ed rules. After reading so much negativity on here about what people might not love about the new Camaro, it's refreshing to see someone so excited and positive about how great the car really is. I have to say that I think it's the most beautiful Camaro ever made. It SCREAMS Camaro! I may not love the dash design, but the exterior is absolutely stunning, its power is incredible (especially the V6!!!) and fuel economy is very impressive. I also have to agree with Ed that the new car really makes the 1st gens look old in comparison, and that's a good thing. The Challenger doesn't really do that... it's too similar to the original.
