new camaro bites the dust
I know, but in the other pics, you can clearly see a pole shaped indentation in the car.
Whoever was driving was probably going so fast that it did more damage than just the pole shaped indentation. There was a lot of energy that needed to be scrubbed off very quickly and that was accomplished by all the wrinkled metal we see in the pics.

here is that pic.

Things still don't add up. At first the owner was claiming he was doing 176 in the car. Then he backpedaled and said he did 146. He said the "7" was a typo. THEN he said he never did over 55 in the car.
Originally, he said he was rearended by a 20 year old, but later he says the person was 15. He never mentioned the pole until the other pics came out. Now he says that the Escape hit him and that spun him out where he hit the pole going backwards.
I still want to see a police report.

Details about the crash? What kind of vehicle hit it? Speeds? I read the linked thread; no real details there.
I'm pretty impressed with how well the passenger compartment held up. Do we have official crash test ratings yet? I know they were shooting for five stars across the board, but I haven't heard whether they actually got it.

Well, I don't know the testing procedures or rating criteria, so I can't rule out the possibility that outstanding performance doesn't correlate exactly with good ratings.
I went to sleep going to work on morning years ago in my 78 and straightened out a curve. I snapped out of it as I hit the edge of the road but all I could do was downshift and try to miss the 1.5 foot tall driveway I was sliding toward on wet grass. The result was that the front left tire ALMOST cleared the driveway, hit at about a 45 degree angle at around 50 MPH, popped the tire off and slammed the car into the driveway at about a 90 degree angle.
When I came to, I was bouncing backwards on the other side of the driveway. The culvert on the other side of the 12 foot wide driveway was crushed, there were no marks on top of the driveway, and there were things in the center console that were found under the drivers seat....I can only guess I flipped of the driveway.
After I wrenched the door open I looked at the car....the driver's side window was about 2 inches higher than the roofline, the back glass had popped out, the front fenders were biting into the windshield cracking the glass and, where the car hit the culvert on the back left wheel, the wheel was cut in half, one of the shocks was laying on the ground, and there was a huge hole in the quaterpanel where things were falling out of the trunk.
Looking at this car....I think I got hit / stopped with about as much force as the 5th gen did, yet I suffered quite a bit more damage all over the vehicle and I guarantee that guy walked out of his hurting less than I did.
