More (better?) '09 Convertible shots from Houston (mine)

Hi all,

I kinda "forgot" about coming to this site after I sold my last Z28 and man do I miss it. Grph. It just pains me to read about them without owning one, so I have avoided this place. Anyway, here are my pics from the Houston Auto Show some 3 weekends ago. I saw some others on here, but the color on those looks skewed and they weren't too sharp. I think these pics give you a sense of "depth"... I especially *love* the design of the wheels. In person it really reminds me of my favorite part of the 3rd Gen IROC-Z's... that definitely is the inspiration for the wheels! Make'em in 18's or 19's, though... the 21's are overkill, but makes for a good show car.

I was shooting in papparazzi mode with my Canon Rebel XTi and selected some "keepers"... Here's a few of them:

I didn't get any good close-ups of the interior... I could not get close and I don't have a big zoom for my Rebel just yet (nor can I afford the one I want, heh).

I love this color scheme. Gimme this exact car in a hard-top, please

The rims are not IROC-Z, they are 82-85 Z28. The stripes are 92 Heritage stripes RS style.

The wheels are neither, though they are indeed inspired by some Camaros from the past. Because of their larger size, they remind me more of the IROC-Z wheels, which always seemed like big wheels for their time, but I can see where the shaping of the spokes goes more to the Z28's.

IROC:

Z28:

I also can almost see this late 2nd gen wheel as an inspiration:

As for the stripes, well, stripes are stripes at this point. It seems moot to speculate as to where they came from unless they are some unusual pattern... which they aren't

In any case, I hope the wheel design stays. As for the "rims" of the wheels, I'll go for polished, thanks. (sorry, pet peeve... the "rim" is merely part of a wheel, a.k.a. the "lip" of the wheel, not the wheel itself)

I know at one point there was a company making 18" replica versions of the latest model IROC-Z wheels. Those would look really sharp on a well restored 3rd Gen! I still think the 21" size is overkill and in the real world the wheels would be far too easily damaged. Not to mention Camaros would be bought up off the lots by every wanna-be rapper in town and putting 22" "4x4-style" spinners on them, heh. Just look what's happened to the Charger and the Magnum
