I thought that was kind of funny/scary. That is what the dealer told my sister when her air bag light came on a few weeks ago. Seems them not functioning would be slightly unsafe at best, more so since she took a 4 hour trip the weekend they were not working. The dealer could not look at it until the next week.

Anyone else have air bag problems ? Maybe you can offer the dealer some advice. Her car has been at the dealer now for a week and a half, they didnt find anything wrong so they reprogrammed the computer but it didnt work, so they changed the computer and that still didnt fix the air bags. After a few days and failed attempts they gave her a loaner car and sounds like they gave up on it since they cant figure it out.

Its already been in the shop for a tailight / turn signal problem when they would work sometime and sometime not or say a light was burned out when none were. Maybe its got a bad harness / connection and the 2 problems were somehow related. I told her not to get the extended warranty so hopefully problems wont keep popping up every month. she got 15,000 miles already.

They swap the BCM yet? All those things you listed are controlled through the BCM.

Send you back a PM Chevy Guy.

Update: After having the car Monday-Thursday of the next week she got the car back. The airbag warning then went of again in about an hour so she called to get an appointment to drop it off again. Im not sure if it was the bcm they tried reprogrammed & replacing but that would be my guess. To me sounds like a seat weight sensor problem, she said the airbag warning comes on when someone sits in the pass seat.

One more time back after this one and you would qualify to "Lemon Law" the car back to them (at least in Michigan).

pretty sure it needs to be in the shop for alot longer than that

and i am not sure about gm but ford uses a RCM for the airbag system, restraint control module

i work for ford, and i can tell you that these new air bag systems can be a real pain in the as to fix, there are multiple modules that could be at fault and i have seen some crazy things causing problem., the slightest bit of resistance in one wire can be almost undetectable and cause tons of problems

it is common to let a customer drive a car with a non functioning system, as long as they are aware. although i do not believe i would say it was completely safe

In Michigan it is three or four repairs for the same defect or the time limit one you are referring too.

Lemon laws vary greatly from state to state. Two years ago, I helped my mother-in-law return a Cobalt LS under Ohio's lemon law.

I hope axed their person who was on the other end of this dispute. She claimed that my 78 year old MIL changed the odometer because it only had 3,000 miles after 2 1/5 years of ownership. This truly is a case of a little old lady driving the car to church and to quilting classes. Literally speaking, the arbitor -- required under Ohio law -- laughed at the Chevy person for being so stupid.

My point is that talk to the dealer and explain to them that if they don't fix the car on the next try, you plan on making a Lemon Law claim. Your chances of a good reapir will go up significantly.

are you being serious, we would laugh at you along with any other shop. they lose nothing in that situation so your threat is useless. that is not the way to get good service

So a customer brings their car in twice, both times YOUR GUYS, the professional highly trained GM technicians, tell them it is fixed. Then when they point out that they qualify for lemon law, because YOUR GUYS aren't smart enough to fix the problem, you laugh at them?

That might possibly be the most arrogant thing I have ever heard from a car dealer. Especially one that has proven itself incompetent - not once - but twice! I would hope you would have a little more pride in your work than that. Please let us know where you work so we can avoid it like the plague.

You do realize that there are other dealers out there, don't you? I suspect that going forward, GM will not coddle the dealers who can't get the job done as they did in the "good 'ole days".

Like it or not, your life as a dealer just got much more competitive over the last 18 months and it will more than likely stay that way.
