Well, here's how I see it, in the near future, I'm planning to go to medical school. That'll knock me out of buying a new car for about a decade. Good thing because it gives the big three some time to work this retro fad out of their system!:
1. Dont like the mustang, looks somewhat cartoonish, too damn retro!
2. The Challenger is going to be a 2 ton pig IIRC, NOT a pony car. Also too damn retro!
3. The new camaro. Looks nice, but i'm just not very hot on the styling. Too much caddy and corvette, not enough camaro IMHO. Also, too much retro for my tastes.
4. The used Z06, finding an unmolested, low milage example would prolly cost as much as a new car. Insurance would likely bankrupt me.
A project car, then, is more than likely for me. What project car? Three possibilities in mind:
1. A late 70's early 80's 2nd gen Z28. Im a sucker for that body style. Also, the HiPo 350 for one of the later years (1980 I think) actually had decent horsepower numbers, 240 I think.......
2. A 1991-ish GTA WS6. Ever since I heard that Pontiac was going in a more BMW ish direction, I've wanted to build a more "European" style F-body. I'd use a CTS drivetrain, get the heads ported, and a set of hotter cams......
3. The current favorite....A later model C3. A dead sexy car IMHO. Stuff a hotcammed LT4 in there, longtubes, mildly ported heads. Keep the T10, though, and use a gear vendors OD. Candy blue with white stripes.......

Re: If you don't buy a Camaro, what will you buy?
Hrm...I really dont know, but probably a used CTS-V or GTO. It would be my daily driver, so it would need some flexability.
In all honesty, if the rumors hold out, a 300+hp Saturn Aura RL or even CTS 3.6 would be up my ally, depends on the money situation.

Re: If you don't buy a Camaro, what will you buy?
A cherry-'86-'87 Buick Grand National project car, or an '89 T/A Pace car with the LC2 engine...But how I'd love to have a similar engine put into a 5thgen, which would also ensure it a place in the History books..
Re: If you don't buy a Camaro, what will you buy?
Whatever I get needs a back seat and would be a daily driver, so Mustang GT(in this poll) or used GTO ... or just keep my current car, I like it
Those choices assume the Challenger is not going to be priced competitively with the Mustang.

I don't know what I would want as a different new car. I'm not even sure when I will be buying a different car.
I could replace my Firebird with:
New Camaro
New Corvette
New Mustang
New Solstice GXP
A different used Firebird
Used Corvette
Used GTO
Used Mustang

I drove the Solstice and Sky, and needed an hourglass instead of a speedometer. Phew, slow. The turbo engine will help it a bit, but it has no useable trunk space!
I like the Mustang ragtop, it's a fun car, and that's what I like in a car. I've driven the C6, and it is simply phenomenal. So my solution will be the Mustang, OR a C6 and a used *** pickup, 'cause I ain't gonna drive the Vette to Home Depot. The Mustang, no problem, I'll drive it anywhere.
I don't want a new car with a fixed roof, and the new Camaro will not have T-tops, it seems. So, it's not in the running.
The Challenger is nice to look at, but it's on the same architecture as the 300 and the Charger, so it will be a porker.
I'm sorta wondering about the new GTO, but I plan to buy a car next year.
