If it fails, what will GM do?
If it fails, what will GM do?
I was just wondering if the new camaro fails (doubt it) what will GM do? Will they go back to the drawing boards or just give up on the camaro forever? What do you guys think?
Remember the challenger will be out....
the stang might have a facelift....
gass prices may be way too high...

Stay positive, it will not fail...it will not fail. If it gets the gas mileage they claimed when first announced, it will be a selling point...better than most SUV's.

The car isn't going to fail as long as it stays close to the concept, which got a roaring response from press, public, and other industry people (I was there at the unveiling along with alot of other people here). Judging how the car was recieved, and looking at how the Mustang is Ford's only bright spot save maybe the Fusion, Camaro seems to be the closest thing to a sure thing since the 2005 Stang was shown.
As for the concerns you pointed out:
Challenger will be out, but it will be more of a somewhat large, fully equpted coupe like the GTO or a Monte Carlo SS.
Mustang WILL have a facelift. It will also have new interior and new engines with significantly more horsepower as well.
As for gas prices, where's the problem? Are people still buying SUVs and trucks more often than cars? You probally didn't notice but GTOs, Corvettes, Vipers, GTs, 300Cs, and Dodge Charger Hemis (not to mention Mustangs) are selling even better than last year....
... despite a 17% drop in the entire new car market for July...
... despite the lack of last year's firesales...
... despite having big performance engines...
... and... despite higher fuel prices.

$2.84 for Regular was the cheapest I saw today. I filled my tank at the same place for $2.86 yesterday.

315 i think for 93
Re: If it fails, what will GM do?
Mustangs still seem a little behind on MPG, but they still sell. The GTO actually gets pretty bad mileage, but is not a "failure" despite the fact that it didn't sell well. I can't think of a Camaro that has ever failed the car buying community, they won't start now.

It's $3.33 for regular in NY.

Guys, all this talk and worry over gas prices is really useless, Our beloved muscle cars aren't going to be the first to get the axe with rising gas prices. By comparison (and this was the same way back in the 70's) Muscle cars get much better gas mileage than a Ford F250 pickup or Chevy Tahoe. Chevy has already responded to the need for better fuel economy with the tahoe now getting the DOD. I would suspect that if we were in any kind of major gas chrisis where gas was going to sky rocket, that none of the car companies would be looking to produce SUV's or trucks next year.
LS1's got consistant 29 MPG stock, I suspect that with DOD in the new car we will be seeing atleast that if not more. I don't know about you but I don't see the Camaro failing in this aspect when you consider that the Infinity G35 and the Nissan Z both get 18 in the city and 26 on the hwy...Maxima is no better. Hell when I buy my new Camaro it will get better mileage than my current 1995 Maxima or my friends 4cylinder accord.
This car has a very bright future, it has the capability of being E85 flexible, will have DOD, and will be much more aestheticly pleaseing than the mustang..which I might add only gets 17 and 24mpg on a good day.
The looks are there, the technology is there, and the customers are there...all we need are some cars with keys and this thing will start moving like a barefoot child across hot aspahalt.
