An idea about saving for the Camaro

I've got about $500 cash saved up for the new Camaro and 360.94 on my GM card. I just had a thought. Why doesn't GM capitalize on the eagerness of certain people to lay down cash deposits at dealerships. Why doesn't GM set up a system through GMAC or something where you could make payments in advance and collect interest on the money to put towards a new GM vehicle. This could be used as a gauge to determine the interest in new vehicles. I would suggest giving a higher than normal interest rate on the money with the penalty for withdrawing the money being losing all interest but none of the actual money you put in. You could begin to build your car ahead of time online with early production if desired delivered to the dealership of your choice. Tell me what you think. GM could actually make money on the deal if people backed out and GM kept the interest. Also there GM could make the accounts transferrable to other GM vehicles.

Whoa, if they started taking deposits now, they'd have a PILE of money pouring into them!!! Geez, good point about the GM Visa ... I've had mine for about ~4 years, and I think my points balance is sitting around ~$1,000 already!! That's a solid down-payment, eh??

I like this idea. I'd be up for a monthly contribution with the ability to build and / or make changes to my vehicle as the build date approached.

Cool idea. GM's marketing dept should look into it and help dealers set something up. It would also help 'buzz marketing', since those folks would likely mention it to their friends that they are participating in such a thing.

I wouldn't mind a factory direct order and eliminate the dealership.

Considering how much GM likes to move their buyers forward (why worry about the future when you can worry about now!), it seems like something they'd love to do.

Lawfully I believe a dealer would have to do this, right?

Re: An idea about saving for the Camaro

I was just thinking that by delivering the Camaro to the dealership of your choice would keep the dealership involved and therefore step on less toes. And since no one seems to be poking too many holes in my idea heres one. Part of the Camaro's appeal to Chevrolet and to dealerships is the increased traffic they bring in.

My idea wouldn't realy eliminate the traffic because this would only affect the people who really know what they want and would mainly apply to early production vehicles.

Oh and I definately think there should be a factory delivery similar to the Corvette program. We just need a Museum.

Unfortunately, dealer greed will hurt initial sales somewhat . . . Perhaps for the first year or so. Then, gradually, MSRP will be the norm. Sad, but true.

I actually really like post 31 in all honesty. That would be fine with me until a more suitable museum is available.

I would be up for it. I was thinking about the same thing the other day. I think it's a great idea.
