Re: I find myself asking this question...

all i got to say is stop moning and groning about WHY ISN"T THERE GOING TO BE NO FIREBIRD? get a gip yall little kids dang. better to make your own New FireBird then to come on here and bitch about why they aren't going to make one. it's simple and clear they just don't want to, maybe they don't have the money to, or if they did make one its going to LOOK like the new camaro just like the other dang firebirds they made that could be inter changed with the body parts with was stupid as hell. its like Oooo lets use the same body parts as the camaro and just change the hood alittle, the front bumper alittle and the rear hatch and the taillight.

Re: I find myself asking this question...

im not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but right after the last f-bods rolled off line i read an article in GM Hightech saying that GM had a contract with the plant in canada stating that until 2015 or 2020 (somewhere around there) GM could not produce another car under the firebird/ trans am name. If they were to do so they would have to pay a multi million dollar penelty. Even though that plant no longer exists that contract is still in effect so add that penelty to production costs before they could even pull a profit on those cars. we may see them again one day but it think its gonna be a long time.. when i get a chance i'll dig through all my old and get an exact quote form the article.

I'm just a little put off by this decision to leave the Firebird dead, especially after seeing some of the reasoning (read: excuses) behind it.
You feel betrayed because a company is refusing to make an inferior money loosing product that a half dozen guys on the internet who wouldn't buy it anyway are clamoring for. Ok.

The same contract also included the Camaro name, but it has expired.

You don't think there would be a stable mate for mustang?

That's all I think needs to be said.
has the Mustang ever had a sister car? no

The Camaro and Firebird are siblings. They compliment one-another well. I'd like to see a Firebird built on new Camaro platform. There wouldn't be much more work involved...keep the same basic chassis, re-design the front and rear end, as in previous generations. If there's no Firebird by the time the Camaro makes it to production, I'm sure somebody will offer a conversion; if not, they would be missing out on a large market.

Think about how many companies there are right now who make aftermarket parts. You can buy an aftermarket hood, spoiler, fenders, tail lights and a "body kit" for a pre 95 Cavalier...now, how many people are going to purchase something like this? Who knows...but if a company would put the time into making these parts to convert a Camaro to a Firebird, I think it would be a success.

This really has nothing to do with the "production" of the Firebird...it's basically to shed some hope on the die hard Pontiac fans out there. Would you buy a Camaro if there was a kit offered to convert it?

Just a thought...

Yeah, I even think that they used the same wheels.

Re: I find myself asking this question...

Wow, emotions! Great to see we are still passionate about car. Scott, I am so thankful GM is bringing back the Camaro and thank you for keeping my interest while the car was on sabbatical. This Firebird debate will rage forever, but we haven't seen all that GM is prepared to offer. Who knows what the next years will bring. I must say if you would have told me in 2000 that the Camaro would be gone by 2002 and GTO would be back you had been in a Volkswagen van smoking something all day. Flash forward...now GTO is on vacation and Camaro is back. This is an everchanging marketplace. People are immediate gratifiers and we change direction at the drop of a hat. (Please do not burn me, stone me, or shoot me for the following worse case scenario) There can not be two cars because there may not be one car 5 years from now. GM can do its best to predict the market, as any company will try to do, but it comes down to consumers and what they can and will spend there money on. The darling five years ago (Expedition, Tahoe, etc.) is now, pardon my term, the redheaeded stepchild of today. If you need to scrap two cars it has a lot bigger impact on corporate, production lines and workers, dealer networks, and consumers than two do. We all need a lean, profitable GM to even build one. This comes back to the emotions side. Emotionally, many of us would love to see Firebird back but business sense it may be one more negative in trying to right the GM ship as a whole. Think about this, is it better to have one iconic GM name running around the streets or none?

Yes this is what he based his purchase around. But people his age have more money then the 20-30 crowd so I guess if he's willing to pay he can get what he wants. Didn't the same thing happen with the 2 door Gran Prix's. No one bought them so you stopped making them
Now when you ride with him in this LS he'll manually shift the thing through all 5 gears at redline and race people so you know he still has a thing for HP, and I've tried several times to get him in another GTO, but he won't go for it due to the above.
Aaron I am going to chime in here, Saying someone is TO OLD to own a camaro is an insult to all who are over the age of 65 who happen to own Camaros/ Firebirds & any other type of sports type cars.

I know at lease one person on here that is over the age of 50 but heck he acts like a teenager lol.

I also know several people in our car club that are well in to the 50s & 60s that act younger at times than my two kids (who by the way are 8 & 12) But they still get out in their Camaros & other sports cars & rip it up on the track or just out on the roads.

Age is only how you feel.

Re: I find myself asking this question...

Just to add a few small comments of mine,

For starters the damn car's looked the same every year. Not changing much about them. which someone said earlier. Also if they weren't selling very many why the hell did they keep that bodystyle? If no one liked it then quit selling it or change it fast! that's just business! Personally i think the 4th gen sucked ***** compared to what it could have been. Also the firebird was much much better looking then the camaro although i am a camaro fan . just some thoughts

I'm thinking that we'll se a pontiac concept in January to get some good exposure. After all it certainly worked for Camaro. Why not do it that way again.
