How much will the base model Camaro cost?

Any ideas on what the base model Camaro will go for? I remember when the Mustang hit the market Ford kept saying how the base model would go for under 20k. I have yet to see a brand new Mustang under 22k. I understand that dealers will mark up a new car if they feel they can get their money for it. But if Ford is getting over 22k for a base Mustang. Chevy could go at least a couple grand more than that on the new Camaro.

Do you think we are looking at a 25k base model Camaro and close to 30k for the V-8 when they finally debut?

I'd hate to see Chevy price themself out of the market

They could but shouldn't. A Base (No-Options) should be at the most 20k.

25K. Any less and you should buy an econobox. I don't want a cheap, chinsey car like the Mustang.

Remember that it'll be coming out 4-5 years after the Mustang. Still, I would expect a base price well under 25k, maybe close to 23k if the planets are aligned.

Of course we Canucks will get screwed as usual and it'll probably be $29,995 up here

I would hope that its pretty close to the low-end mustang.

I think that starts at just under 20k yes?

I guess slightly more depending on what the base engine ends up being.

I would say anywhere between 20-23k for the base should sound about right.

27-30k for the high end.

As cheap as the Mustangs and I hope dealers will sell them that way too. Every time I have went to dealers the Mustang was always cheaper to take home. Magazine prices be damned.

Camaro will be priced near the Mustang, you can count on that.....

Chevy wont price themselves out of the market on a car as important as this one....

That's about all anyone can accurately say at this point. Anything more is just speculation.

Lutz himself said around $200 more than the Mustang.

Mustang V6 starts at $19,835. Check edmunds.com That is with no options, not even ABS brakes. Most dealer wouldn't stock this car because almost no one wants it. Most people want at least a few upgrades.

I expect the Camaro V6 to start at around $21,995 base but have more standard features (ABS/side airbags) than the 2006 Mustang base V6. Just my speculation.

Don't forget, inflation is 3.3% now. $20,000 today = $21,341 in 2008 dollars.

I picked up the new issue of MPH magizine today and it has articles on the Camaro, Challanger, and the GT500 Mustang. On the cover they have estimated prices and horsepower figures for the cars as follows. GT500 $44,000 w/475 HP, Camaro V8 $30,000 w/400 HP,and the Challanger listed as $38,000 w/ 425 HP. They have a 5 page spread on the Camaro, 1 page for the Challanger, and 4 pages on the Mustang, all complete with estimated 0-60 and 1/4 mile times as well as top speed.

Funny how they are estimating things GM and Dodge doesn’t even have figured out yet....

But yeah they are pretty close with one of the V8 Camaro’s
