How many options will we see?

I was watching an "American Muscle Car" episode about the 1st gens and they were talking about the numerous ways you could option the cars (big blocks with not may options all the way up to a loaded car). I find myself asking, will we get to option the s**t out of this car or is it going to be like the GTO's where there are only a couple of options (just an example). I personally would like to have more options available individually as opposed to packages that include a bunch of stuff I won't necessarily want or want to pay for. Now I know it may not be economically feasable for GM to do it this way, but since we're taking cues from the past....................

Good question. In all of the Pontiac G6 commercials you see, they are really hitting on the customization aspect, but then you turn around and have the GTO that had no options at all.

I agree completely about the packaged options. However, I have to think thay they package them becasue it is much easier on an assembly line, so i amnot holding my breath.

Well, take my truck for instance. I bought an 07 Silverado reg. cab short bed 2WD. I ordered it as a work truck, added power locks, mirrors, windows, keyless entry, carpet flooring, custom cloth seats, cruise control, and the best thing of all, the 5.3L (biggest motor available in that body configuration). All that for less than the cost of a LS trim equiped truck with the 5.3L. So with the trucks it CAN be done, I really don't see why it can't be done with the 5th gen.

I agree with dover that it can and SHOULD be done that way with
the Camaro.

If they really want to sell 100K units, it needs more than a few stereo and
leather upgrade packages that cost 2K.

I also think there needs to be more wheel/tire and color choices available than
what the fourth gens had . . .

I think offering customers an assortment of options will really help to get the public involved more and create more potential sales.

Based on the production numbers they are suggesting, you'll have tons of options to choose from.

The GTO had few (zero) options because it was low volume car.

From a marketing standpoint, Americans love to customize everything from their cup of coffee in the morning to (obviously) their car. GM has a lot on the line for the Zeta platform that the Camaro will be riding on. GM knows it has to be a hit and like mentioned above with the G6 they know customization is important. Don’t worry you will have plenty of options, from HUD’s to big V8’s to convertibles and multiple trim levels!

I hope we're right. Nothing will dissapoint me more than having to pay throught the nose for stuff I don't want just to get the stuff I do want. In fact, it may even keep me from buying a new one.

I hope so too, but I have a bad feeling we'll be stuck with option "packages" like on the Corvette. Prett crummy deal I think .

I would love to option a car the way I'd like.

Even though Ford is able to do this to a large degree with the Mustang & make money on the line, GM doesn't seem capable of this.

Go figure.

I hope thay'll come to their senses in the next year and a half. Judging by the ammount of accessories available from GM on alot of their vehicles, we may see some add ons, but I get a bad feeling my wish may not come true, and I'm stuck having to pay 45K for the top model just to get a big V8.
