How many here will keep their current F Body if they buy a 5th gen?
How many here will keep their current F Body if they buy a 5th gen?
I did this poll about 2 years ago, and got some interesting answers. And now that we've seen an actual rendering of the car, I wonder...how many of us die-hards will keep their current car? There is certainly a significant financial/storage hardship when buying another toy without selling the current one. I mean, I have a one car garage, the Z has been paid for now for almost 4 years, and I could probably throw it in the local paper and get $10k for it pretty quickly (I've been offered more than that at shows). That's a nice down payment on a 5th gen. Also, if I kept mine then I'll have to pay for storage for a 5th gen, as I will not leave it outside and I will probably not buy a larger house for at least 4-5 years (adding on to this one is out of the question). So now, I have to add in $100/month on top of the car payment for a decent storage spot.
With that said, will I sell mine? Hell no
I'm still kicking myself 4 years later for selling my old V6 RS. I still have dreams about finding that car in a junkyard, bringing it home and repairing it (it was pristine when sold, and crashed 6 months later). It will be a PITA to have 2 toys in a couple years, but the sweat is worth it when you consider in 6-7 years, it won't be hard at all, and I'll have shot myself for selling my car. I've had it for almost 5 years now, and the cool thing is that I love it way more now than when I bought it. I was a die-hard third gen fan, and the only reason I bought it was because a lady I was buying a mint black '91 Z28 from backed out when I came with the final check...my dad made the suggestion to go newer, so I bought mine in '01.
The car is like family, and influenced my father to buy his SOM '02 Formula from me in April '02 (now with a whopping 2,400 miles on it
). I just wonder...now that we've sorta seen it, how many here will keep their old car when the new one comes out?

Re: How many here will keep their current F Body if they buy a 5th gen?
Have to go with a vette.
Nothing against the retro look but the modern look of the vette appeals to me much more then all these retro cars. Since everyone is going retro there's not many other choices of something modern and light.
Since I guess a vette really wasn't a choice I guess I'll just keep what I have.
edit: i read the title wrong. I thought it was asking who would keep their current f-body and who will buy the 5th gen. Missed the part about trading it in.
In response to that. Are you Fing kidding me.
No Fing way will I trade in a car with $20,000 in mods, that took me 8 years to get the way it is and still isn't done, for a $3000 trade in value to some idiot dealer. Are you nuts?

I will definatly keep mine. As pointed out, there is no point to sell the car with mods so I can get a fraction of what it is really worth. Plus, I really love my car and I have had it for almost 8 years.
With that said, unless the production Camaro looks a good bit different from what we saw (much less retro), I will be getting a Vette (most likely used unless I do really well).

My Z28 and GTA will go nowhere. I have already started planning a 30X40 addition to my garage so I will have room for a 5th gen ragtop.

i'm definetley keeping both of my F-bodys. i've put way too much time into my 86, and i've had it for just over 8 years now.
and my 96 has alot of sentimental value (long story short), i had a 93 Z28 that was totalled in a car accident and my mom would always tell me not too worry about it, i'll find another 4th gen one day when the time is right. she passed away in september 2002 and about 3 months later i found the 96 i have now and fell in love with it, but i didn't have enough cash. then the next day i got a call from the lawyer that was handling the accident i was in and said the other guys insurance company was not only gonna cover my medical (which is all i wanted), but they were gonna give me $12,000 on top of it!!!!! i borrowed $3,000 from my dad the next day and put a deposit on the 96. that's how i know my mom is still looking out for me even though she isn't here anymore
.
anyway, i think my Jeep and my 63 Dodge will be going up for sale shortly,
