How about a little clarity?

All of these future engine designations being thrown out...I seriously don't know what's going on anymore.

So, can someone tell me what the heck is going on now?

What engine and how much power it'll most likely make, is probably going to be in:

2007+ C6?
2007+ Z06?
2008? Sting Ray/SS/Blue Devil/Whatever it's going to be called?

2009 Camaro V6?
2009 Camaro midlevel V8?
2009 Camaro toplevel V8?

New GTO?

Now this is not what people WANT, but what's most likely going to happen. That means no LS7 Camaro or whatever crazy ideas people think of.

Re: How about a little clarity?

Well, it sounds like the Camaro will have two v6 options. A base 250ish hp v6, and a HO 300hp v6. Then the step up to the base v8 sounds like it could be over by 400hp by some, and the top v8 car will put out enough power to be competitive with the GT500. Lineup will probably look something like this

Base v6: 3.9 OHV 250hp
Optional v6: 3.6 DOHC 300hp
V8 model: 6.2 OHV 420hp
Top model V8L: 6.2 Supercharged OHV probably making near or over 500hp.

.

Just a guess....

C6 - 430 hp
Z06 - 500hp
Sting Ray - 600+hp

V6 Camaro - 285 hp
midlevel V8 Camaro - 400 hp
toplevel V8 Camaro - 450-500hp

GTO? Unfortunately, so far, nothing.

D'oh!

A 300hp V6!

I'll have to hide my LT1 in shame.

Are we back to a single V6 then?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the 2 V6s are still on.

One around 250 hp and the other slighty above 300...

However, Charlie probably knows something I dont

No.... it's not 300 horsepower.

This V6's target is for over 300 horsepower.

I also believe that the difference between Camaro and Corvette's V8 horsepower ratings (real or imagined) are going to disappear. Camaro's going to be significantly heavier than Corvette and isn't going to have a purpose made chassis as the Corvette's, it isn't going to perform like a Corvette.

I think the new V8 will have 25-50 horses over the LS2. I'd peg the new 6 at the 4th gen's LS1 rating of 310-330 (only this time, it will be for real), and a base 6 in the 250 horse range.

Re: How about a little clarity?

FWIW, the Nissan 350Z has a ~300hp V6, and while it has the ricer community's undying love, it's not really anything special to those of us normally interested in big V8s.

In a race against an LT1 4th-gen, I would expect the LT1 to get a jump and pull early on, with the V6 closing some ground as the revs climb, and then losing some ground again as speeds go beyond 100mph (4th gen reportedly being much more aerodynamic than a 5th gen)

Complete speculation on my part, of course!
