Personally I have looked into the SCCA licensing and until I have a car to race I have to hold off.
You may also want to consider a C5 Z06.
You could get on with rebuilt title for about $12-14k.
Most people gut them and recoupe about half of their money just parting out all the useless junk they don't need like interior stock brakes suspension etc...
You could put together a VERY capable race car for less than $15k.

yeah, the c5 z06 is one of my choices for a race car. i still need to research these classes though. see what kind of restrictions there are and what the competition is.
