GM Points to be used on the 2009 Camaro???

Tell me about it. I ran a credit report recently and they had an additional GM Card account on there in my name with $4,000 balance! But they were actually pretty good with clearing that up. I'm hoping by 2010 I'll have a good amount of points on there for a Camaro, or one of the other future cars they have in the works. When the card first came out there was no limit as to how many of your points you could use on a new vehicle. Too bad they don't do that anymore.

How do you know if you have the old or new card?
I got mine around February 2000. I'm guessing it's a newer one.

Not sure how to tell. But when my dad bought his '06 GTO they let him use all 3,500 of his points because he had the card from way back, definitely prior to 2000.

My stepdad got his GM card in 1990 and redeemed a full $3,000 on his 1996 Grand Prix GT. I think they came out with them in about 1986 or 88.
Here's some irony for ya..... I got my GM card back in 2000. It's purpose was to save for a - guess what - new Camaro! At the time, I figured it would be 6 or 7 years for me before I bought a new car, and at the rate I use a credit card, at the end of the 6 or 7 years I'd have the $3,000 redemption earned (at that time, I don't think GM placed redemption limits on any car, so you could redeem however many points you had on any car up to $3,000). Suffice it to say, less than a year after I got the card GM announced they were killing the F-bodies. Fast forward to today, I have almost $3,000 on the card and the return of the Camaro is upon us. I will say if GM does not accept AT LEAST a $1,000 redemption, I will be extremely upset.

Well, I called GM and found there are only 2 cards. The Blue card and the Platinum card. Blue allows you to use as many points you want but limits you to max earnings of $500 per year. Platinum allows you to earn as many as you want but limits you per vehicle, $1,000 in most cases.

I got my GM card in 1994. Back then you could accumulate 5%, up to $1000 per year in credit. So, I used it for everything, including purchase of company supplies for my first job. By 2001 there was $4700 of credit on the card. Then GM announced that they were going to disallow the card with purchases in conjunction with GM employee purchases. So, We put the $4700 down on a new Venture Minivan, along with a $4000 employee discount, and a 0.9% financing deal. After that we cancelled the card, since I'd rather keep using my father's employee discount. However it was a pretty cool deal to just drop off our '97 Saturn SW2, and drive off in a new minivan with a $5000 check in hand. It felt like GM was paying us to buy the car. Now we're making payments to OURSELVES on our 2009 Camaro (have been for about a year), so by the time mid-2009 rolls around, we ought to have it pretty much fully financed. No GMAC needed!

Wow, that's something I'd NEVER thought about! LOL If you can do that with the GM card (I've never heard of paying a car payment or mortgage on a credit card) you'd rack up some points fast.
