GM Fills In Info on Zeta Cars (Camaro, G8, Impala, etc.)

Earlier this week, General Motors' main product man, Bob Lutz, announced 2006 Holden Commodore SS Australia's Holden Commodore will make its way here as the Pontiac G8. (Photo: Holden) some important details regarding the replacement of GM's lineup of larger than midsize sedans, the Pontiac Grand Prix and the Chevrolet Impala. Lutz confirmed that the Pontiac's successor would be called the G8, following in suit with the G-number naming scheme, and that the car would have "distinctive Pontiac styling". The G8 will be a rear-wheel drive vehicle, launching the Zeta platform in North America. However, Pontiac will initially be following a proven formula used with its recent GTO, with production first beginning in Australia alongside its brother, the Holden Commodore, with which it shares its underpinnings.

It is expected that after the first year of production, General Motors will switch over the G8’s production location to the Oshawa, Ontario assembly facility where the Camaro will be built......

Alot of the stuff we already new, but they kinda give a rough base price for the V6 model and also say that the camaro wheel base will be stretched out up front in order to accomodate 20 inch wheels.

I dont think that 21000 is too bad, A base Mustang with a 210 hp six is 20000 anyway so the Camaro with 240 or more hp should be competetive

I mean it is pretty much what we have all suspected for quite some time now. The Camaro models will all probably be priced about $1,000 higher than the corresponding Mustang models.

You're right, they should be prices lower than the mustang, but we know how the General can be.

While I realize ~$1000 less than comparable Mustang may be a far stretch, if it does, in fact, end up being priced ~$1000 MORE than a similar Mustang, then GM is just being stupid and greedy .

In reality, each model should be ~$100 - $500 less than the comparable Mustang. But if they can't "afford" to do that (hah! ) it should not be ONE DOLLAR more!!!! You know, make it ONE DOLLAR LESS!! Do we wanna sell Camaros?? Time to be competitive beyond HP #'s .

i don't think the pricing will be a problem.. $1000 more than a mustang, for a better car.. better drivetrain.. IRS.. probably a higher quality interior, etc...

If that is in 2008/09 dollars, It very well could be at the same price as the mustang. Inflation.

I agree with you in sentiment... The fact that they are dirt cheap sells a lot of mustangs but then again you also see where the money went when you get in it... A little more money for a lot more car is ok with me...

Price wasn't what kept buyers away from the Camaro.
In fact, I would say, if the Camaro is cheaper than the Mustang, they will have to go far too cheap on the "rest" of the car (outside the engine) and it would fail again.

For this to be a success, it has to hit right with the vast majority of buyers. This means non-enthusiasts who will judge the car as a whole, and not just by hp numbers.

As Good Ph.D said -- a little more money and a lot more car is fine by me. Especially since so many people lease -- the difference should be negligable.

I have no problem spending a little more than the mustang...as long as I'm getting a better and faster car.

1000 or less would be reasonable, I'm just afraid of it getting to be a larger difference with higher models?? hopefully not
