Edmunds: 2012 Camaro to get significant interior update

Best news I've heard in awhile. Always fun to reopen this particular can of worms.

http://blogs.insideline.com/straight...-for-2012.html

A GM insider confirmed for us that the company is hard at work now on a substantially reworked interior for the Camaro that will appear for the 2012 model year. He couldn't/wouldn't list all of the changes, but did mention that most of the upgrading work will go into the dash and specifically that big expanse of blackness in front of the passenger.

You left out the best part....
Also new for the 2012 will be a little something called the Camaro Z28. Perhaps you've heard of it once (or a million times) before. Why wait until the 2012 model year? Our source says so it doesn't step on the toes to the convertible which will be the Camaro's "big news for 2011."

THANK THE CAR GODS!!!

I may have to postpone the Vette purchase until I see some leaked photos. The interior is the ONLY reason why I'm not driving one now.

With all of the earth quakes & volcanoes we've had lately, it signals the end is near. The Z28 will be the final blow.

Hopefully the center stack and guage cluster will be re-thought.

Actually I saw a detailed show on the Mayans on History channel the other night. This whole the world will end on Dec 21, 2012 because the Mayan calendar ends on that date is based upon speculation and the misinterpretation of ancient Mayan mythology. In other words, don't forget to pay your taxes in 2012 assuming you'll never have to file on April 15, 2013.

As for Z28 in MY2012... curse you GM! And here I was hoping to be content with buying a convertible next spring.

Something needs to be done about that giant sea of pebbly plastic in front of the passenger, though a video game screen might not be it.

I dont see the big deal with the passenger side of the dash . Most cars dont have much goin there either . That would probably be the last area I would address as a concern . I mean really , what are they supposed to put there ????

Maybe a phantom wheel, pedals and gauges so they have something to do?

I must be in the minority because I like the current design. The execution could have been a little better.

I'd like to see the basic design stay. Maybe enlarge the 2 main gauges a bit. They should have a MUCH higher end look. Think electro-luminescent or something like that.
The center stack needs to be changed in order to utilize a real info-tainment system; something to rival the best system out there now. A little bit more conventional looking HVAC control system.
Then from there, it's just materials. Stitched leather & padded vinyls should be on tap.
Replace the shiny hard plastic inserts in the doors & dash with either padded cloth or pleated leather. No fake stainless painted plastic garbage. Use the real thing. Leather wrap the e-brake handle.

Whatever they do, I hope they don't make it look like any other car out there. It needs to be extremely unique.
