Does anyone else refuse to pay over MSRP?

We talked to the dealer near us today and they said that they are selling all Camaros for $2500 over MSRP. NO! We are NOT doing that!

WTF is wrong with these people? They're closing all these dealerships, the company is struggling, still they want to screw over their customers. I am so pissed off about this that it makes me not want to buy anything from them ever again.

Definitely refuse to pay Camaro markups! There are plenty of dealerships out there that will take care of you.

I hope you said the bold section to the dealer before you walked out.

Damn right you are not gonna do that! Why? Because Jen and Jeremy are sensible people and would understand that paying over MSRP would only encourage dealers to do it to more people. Good job!

We've been saying it since the Concept was revealed...

REFUSE CAMARO MARKUPS!!

I have also walked away as well. The dealer closest to me claims that they are selling for over MSRP because they bought the cars from other dealers so that they could have them in stock. I told them that even if that is the truth, they are stupid for doing it.

No way you should pay over MSRP. You guys have waited long enough for this car to return and any treatment such as this is unacceptable. I haven't even been to the dealer yet and I know its going to be a nightmare dealing with these salespeople.

Sealed their own fate

If my local dealership (Jerry's Chevy of Leesburg, VA) is any indicator of what is going on, then GM might as well close down the Chevy line, along with Pontiac.

I am so pissed off at what I saw this morning: the ONE Camaro the dealer had - A V6 RS Automatic - $28k (too high, imo) WITH AN "ADJUSTED MARKET VALUE" $6000 OVER STICKER !

If GM had any *****, they'd tell their constiuents that they are to be sold for sticker or under sticker, ONLY.

My first car was a '68 Camaro back in 1982. I have always bought Chevy; the latest, a new 2007 HHR. But I am so fed up with GM right now, that I will not be shedding one tear, WHEN they go under. And they WILL go under, if they continue down this same road of doom.

The original poster of this thread had it right: WTF are they thinking ???

Driving to the beach this weekend, I saw a very large Chevy dealership - and IT WAS CLOSED.

Wake up. There's a recession and people aren't buying.

Damn, I'm mad !

Just try another dealer dude. There are plenty out there. It's not that big of a deal to buy out of state and have it delivered to VA.

Whoa! Calm down. There are dealers out there (two in my area) that are charging MSRP.

Also, read around in the threads. You would learn that GM CANNOT tell a dealer what price to sell vehicles for; it is illegal.

REFUSE CAMARO MARKUPS! (Don't flame GM!)

There not all criminals...

My favorite dealer told me he had three calls from other dealers willing to pay him 5k over for his. He didn't cave in to the almighty dollar. He has told me the 2SS he has ordered is mine if I want it for sticker. NO mark up. And his word is iron. Been in business over 50 years. Grandpa started it,dad took over now it's his. The sad thing is that GM very well may kill this family history.

Sorry, but I'm not gonna calm down. When your and my tax dollars are supposedly bailing out GM, they need to do their part. Why can't GM tell dealers what price to sell? GM owns the car, until you sign the paperwork. Saturn had fixed-pricing. What law is being broken?

Ford did the same thing with the Mustang back in 05/06. However, the economy was good, car makers weren't looking for handouts. Today is completely different. The Camaro, like the Mustang, was meant to be a high-volume car (unlike the Challenger). If they intend on making money, then they better start pricing these right, which includes knocking off the ficticious Adj. Market Value. We'll see 6 months from now, how many cars are still on the lot - if there is still a lot.

interesting

While you have a reasonable reason for being angry, the inflated price has nothing to do with anything but capitalism. Thank god,we live in a country that allows us to make our own choices. In business and otherwise. Although our choices continue to be dwindling, you still have the choice to excercise your right to voice your opinion and NOT PURCHASE an inflated price. There ARE those that excercise their right to take advantage of owning one before those of you that choose not to. If your going to complain,do it were it has the biggest chance to result in change. Your local or state governmemnt representitive. If there wasn't an american to purchase these at an inflated price the price wouldn't exist. Supply and demand. We've been operating that way since day one. As the production numbers add up,these mark ups will disappear in all except the fattest markets.

almost forgot.....

Your tax dollars have nothing to do with inflated prices. It has to do with corperate executives over paying themselves and not paying attention to the bottom line. Profits and a changing public need and meeting them. As well as anticipating the future. Golden parachutes and what I call a bad case of the MEism disease. Seems to be spreading rampantly these day's.

franchise laws would be broken, there have been threads here about it.

You don't have to understand the law, but realize it does indeed exist and the manufacturer has NO SAY in what dealers charge.
