Detroit News Camaro Concept Test Drive article

Okay Scott, how in the heck did these people get invited to be on the panel. First public sector people to drive the concept, and some aren't even big Camaro fans???

Good news is, all 10 of the panelists preferred the Camaro's design over the Mustang. DON'T water it down!

Seems to be a common theme from all these critics.....

BUILD IT!

By far my favorite quote from the article is this one-

"The Camaro makes the Mustang look passive."

Amusing. And true.

Re: Detroit News Camaro Concept Test Drive article

I think it is important for this car to be seen and driven by people who aren't fans of Camaro's. It makes for better feed back when you have a guy who knows nothing about cars telling you every thing he likes about it in a honest and almost innocent way. Same thing when you have a Girl drive it who has never liked Camaros before and decides that despite the image the name carries she really likes the car for what it is.

I think it is people like these who are to some extent more important than us enthusiasts, after all these are the people who will buy base models and make it possible for performance nuts and gear heads like us to get the hi po cars we want.

Shows you have superficial these reviewers are....they base it all on how it looks.

Kinda make sense why they liked the Mustang over the GTO even though the GTO was the better car.

I guess the great thing from GM's perspective is that the panellists were pricing the vehicle higher than GM's intended market. That says plenty about the quality of Camaro's design!

Most of the population is pretty superficial.

Looks are the first thing someone sees when they look at a car or person or house or whatever.

Fact is, looks can be a deal breaker regardless of how good the car is.

I never cared for the GTO either. I never thought it was bad looking, but the fact that it looked SO much like a 1998 Grand Prix with it's styling made it a little less interesting. Honestly, I prefer the look of the top Grand Prix from the 1998 model to the GTO (even with 4 doors).

I do find the GTO more attractive than a Mustang though.

My parents will probably buy one, as will I. They loved the styling when I first showed them pics and they are major car n00bs...

This is extremely significant. Keep it as low and wide as possible.

Re: Detroit News Camaro Concept Test Drive article

I agree, the most important people to gain public reaction from are non-Camaro enthusiasts. We're obviously just going to be a bunch of yes-men and GM doesn't want that, they want unbiased opinion...and possibly even biased opinion toward the other side (Ford, if you're oblivious.)
Of course looks are the first thing somebody will notice about a car, and one of the most important aspects of any car. Who cares if it has a world class powerplant and suspension system. Would you buy it if it were nothing more than a square with wheels, windows, and that fabulous drive train? I wouldn't, I want a car that looks good and reflects my personal taste. The new Camaro is all that and more to me, it's a spectacular design and I want to get my hands on one.
I'm sure our time is coming to take a lap in it, after all, this is one of the biggest Camaro sites out there. Who has pushed for this thing more?

Re: Detroit News Camaro Concept Test Drive article

ONe guys said dont price it any higher than $55,000.00 if it gets anywhere near that it will be disasterous for the car, unless we are talking about 650HP LS9.
