Chevy reveals new Camaro, Malibu

Detroit -- Chevrolet executives unveiled several new vehicles Wednesday, including a convertible Camaro and redesigned Malibu, that they hope will help the brand seize new customers as General Motors Co. shrinks from eight to four brands.

GM expects Chevrolet will account for more than 70 percent of the automaker's sales and is targeting younger customers who want more fuel-efficient vehicles.

"We believe the biggest growth opportunity is right here," in North America, Chevrolet General Manager Jim Campbell told reporters at a product showcase at the Eastern Market.

Chevrolet is building vehicles that fit five segments: trucks, performance, eco, youth and the modern family.

The vehicles will be displayed at next month's North American International Auto Show.

The redesigned Malibu will hit showrooms in about two years and will be built at GM's assembly plant in Detroit-Hamtramck.

The Camaro convertible, meanwhile, debuts in spring 2011.

I don't think I like that they're showing the new Malibu so far in advance. I understand a year, but two years is kind of stretching it. People are going to go in, see the car, then see oh wow, I can't park one in my driveway for two years. Not only that, but you're also giving the competition a free view of a car that won't be out for quite some time, giving them more room to adjust.

No, the Malibu will not be shown, but the Aveo RS and Orlando should be.

I also heard that Friday, the 18th, that there will be a big announcement for Camaro. Could be the production vert, or could be a Z28?
